I am driving around with big letters on my rear-view window saying, "No $5 million assessment" which is the amount the condo association wants to put on us, after a $7 million assessment in Feb. My share so far is almost 10% the value of the unit and means I can't move out without losing money. It's financially complicated, but that's not why I'm writing.

So some old codger says, Well you shouldn't complain if you don't go to the board meetings.

And I said, "Well, I am working two jobs, seven days a week, to pay all the debt the board has put on me. I don't have time to go to meetings."

Besides, the last time the development had a vote the board didn't like, they took the vote THREE TIMES until it finally turned out the way they wanted it -- people just gave up voting I reckon.

So I don't want to go to the meeting, because these people make me sick, and I feel like yelling and swearing at them, and I figure it doesn't do any good anyway. They will just do what they want.

But the old codget is probably right and I should go to the meeting, right?

I won't -- it's starting right now -- but I'll wallow in guilt that's for sure.

Wants, sounds rather "crooked" to me, and clearly must be against Bylaws somewhere? I'd find me an outside lawyer (to go for me :-) to shake things up a bit and get the crooks out. You don't have any lawyer friends do you or other friends in the association who feel the way you do and could foot the bill or help front the opposition?

I wouldn't feel guilty about not going, you have your opinions and sounds like you're stating them quite well! Why do you have to go to a meeting just to not like an increase? What's to like about it if nothing seems to be improving.
