I recently visited my sister in law and the visit went great. I've always gotten along great with her. A short time after the visit, I received a very mean message from her sent by FB messenger saying she did not appreciate me asking questions about her family. And if I wanted to ask questions, then I should show some courage and ask her and not other people. I had no clue what she was talking about. I started quizzing other family members and found out my mother in law told her I was asking gossipy questions about her niece. Well, I did not do that. I had asked my mother in law what the nieces name was, but that's it. Nothing unreasonable about that. My mother in law twisted things and stirred up trouble. I replied to my sister in law that she was incorrect in what she thought had happened and explained the only thing I had said. She was still angry and gruff with me and then "unfriended" me on FB.
This all makes me quite angry. For one, I wish my sister in law had not chosen a stupid forum like FB to contact me. Why did she not pick up the phone and discuss it with me more civilly? Why did she automatically accept what my mother in law had said without asking me? And she knows to take most of what my mother in law says with a grain of salt as it's a known fact that my mother in law struggles with some psychiatric issues. And she did not apologize for misunderstanding or anything. This is just not right. |

Can you have a face-to-face conversation with your SIL once things calm down? It's good you want to resolve this peacefully. It seems like the best way to calm this tempest in a teacup. I know you are angry but it doesn't sound like it's worth you being upset and angry over it. Best wishes.

Give it time to calm down and hopefully you both can talk it out, I certainly would not even try right now.
There are worse things in life than being unfriended on Facebook. I once blocked half my immediate family because they thought my fibromyalgia wasn't real !
