I've always had a really hard time going up to people. People just don't understand how hard it is. I really want to go up to people and talk to them but I just can't do it. If I do actually work up the courage to go talk to someone I sometimes get ignored and that just makes it harder. I wonder if I did anything wrong. Sometimes if I actually go up to people I'll have nothing to say. There's certain people who I've always wanted to talk to and be friends with but I'm just to afraid to start talking to them or to keep talking to them. Trying to go up and talk to new people is extremely hard for me. I don't know what to do. I don't want to keep bugging them. I really want to spend time with these certain people or I'll just end up having more regrets. All these people that got away cause I couldn't go up and start talking to them. I don't want to think ever again what could have been with someone I really like cause I couldn't get something going with them. I'll have to forever think about that.

Maybe say to yourself "What's the worst that can happen?". They don't respond as you'd like? That is something we all have to face it's no measurement of you or your worth.

Practising going up to people you are less interested in may be a good start, just trying out those social skills with no pressure on yourself. Practice makes everything feel easier.

I hate being in large social gatherings where I practically know no-one and then have to muster up something mundane.

Once I find a little 'something' to talk about I can take it from there but I don't think I'm good at just approaching people if I don't have a topic either.

Asking "what's the worst that could happen?" doesn't seem to help much. It doesn't matter if I'm less interested in them. I guess I'm just really afraid of people. People need to come up to me. I'm just too scared to do it. Too scared to say anything or say my opinion on something. Too scared to say if something has offended me. I guess I'm pretty pathetic aren't I? So I don't know what to do. I suck. Maybe meditation will help I don't know.

You don't sound pathetic. You're possibly very sensitive and lacking self confidence, have you tried therapy?
