I am moving in a matter of days. It will be first time in a house in eight years. Do people still show up on someone's doorstep to introduce themselves or is this a neighbourly act long gone in the past? Do I approach them or do I wait for them to come to me? I'm just not sure of the etiquette these days.

Either/or. We had new neighbors move in on both sides of us. One side came over, introduced herself and gave us fresh green beans. The other side acts like they are in the Witness Protection Program. I took some mail of theirs that got put in my box over there and they were as friendly as a block of dry ice (and I’m reclusive). The new lady across the street btw is originally from South Korea and frequently brings homemade fried rice and spring rolls. Can’t beat that! Overall friendly neighborhood.

My boyfriend is convinced we are going to get along. He drove by last night and saw a Harley Davidson identical to his own parked in the neighbour's driveway.

Halloween is just days after move-in. I wonder if I might use this as my excuse to knock on the neighbours' doors. 'hi I'm your new neighbour. I was wondering how many trick or treaters to expect?" Does this sound okay?

Jennifer 1967 - The last time I lived in a house the only time I saw the neighbours was when they mowed their lawns.

Halloween sounds like a good reason to introduce yourself to your neighbors to me. Best wishes on having great neighbors! I hope your move goes smoothly.

I think to your immediate neighbours a little hello will be warming.

I didn't say anything to anyone in all the places I lived. I do not know my neighbors currently. I am a loner and keep to myself and my own business. I am a dream neighbor because I am rarely heard/seen.
