Hi guys. I'm a 22 year old male who suffers from serious anxiety and depression. After a turbulent year or so, I started my first postgrad job a couple months ago and its going well. Since things seem to be settled on that front my mind has drifted to the idea of finding someone to have a relationship with. There are a number of issues I'm having with this. Due to my anxiety I tend to be very introverted and have trouble meeting people my own age. In addition whenever I'm not busy with work, most of the time I want to go home and relax instead of pushing myself to go out.

Whats better than getting high and getting home to relax? Relationships are overvalued anyway.

So person is asking how to meet people and you just advised he gets high? That’s unhelpful

Hey crisscross, I am introverted male myself. Things I've considered have required inward thinking.
-What do I like to do? (i.e. playing music, drawing, trading card games, hiking / outdoor sports, playing competitive sports, playing video games) -How do I use these things to my advantage to meet new people and potentially a new relationship? Do the things you love without the core drive to be dating someone. You'll find that focusing on the things you like while keeping dating as a lesser goal, will get you to the point of dating someone. I have depression and anxiety myself, so I hate it when people tell me to just be confident. You do need a little bit of confidence, just a little. It doesn't necessarily need to be you, but the things you do and keep you busy. Whether it would be confidence in the work you do or the hobbies and activities you engage in. Have confidence in the things you do. I have faith in your aim to date. You just found a good job thats going well. That's most of the battle. |

Easier said than done - I have never been able to 'get out there' or even approach women to ask them out (fine to talk about anything else, work, science, art etc).
