My daughter doesn't live with me but she came by the house the other day to take care of her cats when I was at work. I found a drop of blood on the bathroom floor that I know was from her. She self harms and I think she may have hurt herself while she was here. Normally I'm very straight forward and ask questions but I'm not sure what to do anymore. I haven't seen her since and I suspect that it was meant for me to find. I'm at a loss and open to any thoughts or suggestions PLEASE!

I think I am understanding that although you are usually straight forward, addressing this with your daughter whom you haven't seen in a while is like walking a tight rope. How to talk without being confrontational? How to raise concern and open dialogue? Getting her to open up to you is perhaps my biggest piece of advice-not to say she might not but if you keep that door open it's back in her court.

Welcome!
How old is your daughter? I tend to agree ... leaving a trace of blood if you know she self harms is tricky and I wonder if she wanted you to know it's there. Is she seeing a therapist? |

She turned 18 in October but left the day she graduated to go back to a boyfriend that had broke up with because he is abusive. She has been in counseling since she was 14 and first started hurting herself. She isn't currently seeing anyone and I am sure she is off of her meds, I think. This has been going on for years and I think she got out of here so she doesn't have someone asking her all the questions. I know he threatens to kill her and when she cries he reminds her that she wants to die anyways so what is the problem. I go from angry and resentful to scared and sad for her. Thanks for listening.
