With some recent developments within my family and otherwise, there is a need for me to do some exercising of my own personal rights. Please bear with me. If you can, give your feedback, give your own "I statement", etc.

PERSONAL AFFIRMATIONS

First and foremost, I AM a human being. As a human

I AM a feeling being. Each and every emotion that a human feels is God given.

I HAVE a right to my feelings. They are neither right nor wrong. The just ARE. It's up to me what I do with them.

I HAVE a right to physical as well as emotional/mental boundaries. I have a right which ones to make permeable and which ones not.

I AM responsibile to not cross other's boundaries.

I AM responible for my own persuit of happiness.

I AM a nurturer.

I AM a lover of people and especially all children.

I AM a person of strong integrity.

I AM a fair person

I AM a believer in the statement, "If you love someone, set him/her free. If they are "yours," they'll come back. If they don't, they weren't yours to being with."

In my humanity and life's experiences, I AM scarred and/or flawed.

I AM a person who needs affirmation, reassurance and caring. It's my right to seek such if not freely given.

That's a good start, I think. Feel free to contribute. "I" Statements...

My T printed this list for me when I first started seeing her.

Some are still very tough for me to put into action. "I" Statements...

There is also a shorter list called "Bill of Assertive Rights."

--------

I have the right to ask for what I want.

I have the right to say no to requests or demands I can't meet.

I have the right to change my mind.

I have the right to make mistakes and not have to be perfect.

I have the right to follow my own values and standards.

I have the right to express all of my feelings, both positive or negative.

I have the right to say no to anything when I feel I am not ready, it is unsafe, or it violates my values.

I have the right to determine my own priorities.

I have the right not to be responsible for others' behavior, actions, feelings or problems.

I have the right to expect honesty from others.

I have the right to be angry.

I have the right to be uniquely myself.

I have the right to feel scared and say "I'm afraid."

I have the right to say "I don't know."

I have the right not to give excuses or reasons for my behavior.

I have the right to make decisions based on my feelings.

I have the right to my own needs for personal space and time.

I have the right to be playful and frivolous.

I have the right to be healthy.

I have the right to be in a non-abusive environment.

I have the right to make friends and be comfortable around people.

I have the right to change and grow.

I have the right to have my needs and wants respected by others.

I have the right to be treated with dignity and respect.

I have the right to be happy.

These rights have been adapted from The Anxiety and Phobia Workbook by Eugene Bourne (Oakland, CA: New Harbinger Publications, 1995).

I am a human being

I love other humans/animals/nature

I have the right to opinions

I have no right to demean/degrade/undermine/oppose others' opinions

I have no claim on anothers life, including my children, we merely 'borrow' them to nurture and teach right from wrong, they are a gift. They 'choose' us before they are born imo.

I have many lessons to learn

I need to find 'me'

I believe we can always learn and improve ourselves.

so many....don't want to bore

I just got the book, I had brain surgery, what's your excuse? by Suzy Becker out of the library and she starts off with this "Daily Affirmation," with a drawing she made of a woman in front of the bathroom mirror in her bathrobe, presumably first thing in the morning, which confirmed the book was one I would like :-)

My life is interesting.
Others will find it interesting.
I would find it interesting if I weren't me.

hehe Leave it to your, Perna.

From what I hear, some people think my life is a horror story, others think it's a romance. Wish I could make up MY mind.

Good food for thought.

Huh.

My "I" statements are generally more like:

I am a failure.
I feel like crap.
I can't change things.

Yeah...Not so good, I know.

Thanks for reminding me that among the things I can no longer do there are still those I can do.

My personal list:

I am brave.
I have a strong survival instinct.
I am doing the best that I can.
I am keeping my animals and kid fed and loved.
I am developing insights.

Sing, you're right. Not so good. "I" Statements... It would be great if you could flip it to the possitive and say it... whether you believe it or not.

I am a success
I feel GREAT! "I" Statements...

And then say the Serenity prayer for your last one. It takes a while but it will eventually start to work.

I feel like a pain in the ***

I use I too often

I am trying to be positive

I would like to know where to begin

I am sorry I am a pain in the *** and my name appears everywhere like a sense of doom here

I am giving you all a break from my constant dismal personality

I will return when I have something positive to say

somewhere between Jin and Kerry I think "I" Statements...
