I’m working on managing tense situations better. I pick up on tension very quickly and I’m very sensitive to it, even when it has nothing to do with me. I have a tendency to babble when I’m nervous. When tensions kick up at work or with family situations... any tension... I get uncomfortable and start babbling away. Ugh. Its embarrassing and I’m mad at myself when I do it. What are some diversion tactics you use to cope with tension in a room? Often I just leave the room but that’s not always an option.

It's just something you use to self sooth. Some people tap their feet and some people shake their feet, some people chew their pencils, some choose to doodle on paper, some twist their hair, some like to play with their jewelry, or fiddle with their watch or even their shirt buttons, some chew their fingernails, or tap their pencils on the desk, with all these hand held computer phones some distract by using those.

Hi Sisabel.
Do you think you can wear a ring, or a bracelet that reminds you to take a deep breath? It doesn't have to have the engraving, "breathe." Only you know that you are wearing it as a reminder to yourself. |
