I wished a friend of a friend, who i have met several times, happy birthday on facebook i have done it for the past 2 years and she replied thanks but remind me when did we connect? I think its a curious word to use.

Yeah, I honestly don't think she meant anything other than 'when did we meet'. Using the word 'connect' is just another way of saying it. So now you can tell her.

Well, maybe by using the word 'connect' there is a slight implication of wanting to know when the two of you knew each other. You know, 'connected'.

Maybe she doesn’t remember actually meeting you. I’d say I’d not be messaging this person if she has no recollection of you. That’s why I dislike social media. People contact each other but they don’t even know each other

I get the impression she is asking when you connected on facebook, as in friended. Her question also implies she doesn’t really know who you are, too. It’s kind of a brush off thing for her to say as though she thinks you wishing her happy birthday is strange. But I may be wrong, because everybody who is a facebook friend can wish someone a happy birthday, so don’t take my gut feeling to heart.
