Was in a serious relationship for 4 1/2 years and broke up in December. She decide to leave me.

I just started dating someone new for a month now. She has two kids which are 5-7 years old. The whole dating someone with kids is new to me as i dont have kids at all. She has her kids week on week off.

The whole back to seeing someone new feels kinda weird at times to me. I sometimes still miss my ex , but I no that isnt going to happen again. Its just some memories pop into my head of the good times we had and i always think ill have those memories.

How can i let someone in more and see this as a new chapter in my life and move past my memories ? Never dated soemone with kids, it doesnt bother me, but is there a point in time where i know this is what i will want?

thanks hopefully those questions werent to grey.

I think it just takes time. Dating is great. You don't have to settle down with anyone until you're certain.

As a parent myself, it's best to not get involved in the children's lives until you're absolutely sure you're wanting to take this relationship seriously.

If you're still thinking fond memories with your ex as new experiences come to play, I suspect you're not all that interested in this new woman. And you know what? That's ok. Keep trying meeting new people.

Im not sure how other people feel on here, but I don't think there's anything inherently wrong with still missing your ex. You'll always have those memories and it's ok to cherish them, in that sense, I don't think there's moving past your memories, but imo its only a problem if those memories interfere with creating and enjoying new memories, and if you're constantly thinking of still wanting to be with that person while you're with your current partner, I can see how that may be problematic. Is this the case with you?

As for whether you will know it's what you want. Yeah, perhaps you simply need more time. 1 month isn't that long. How do you feel about the time spent with this person? What do you think of them?

Also, does your partner know about what you're sharing with us here?
Thanks for this!
