I have some family members on one of my paid streaming subscriptions. I really don’t want them on there anymore. I’ve pretty much pulled entirely away from family and drama. If I take them off my account it’s probably not worth the drama because they will get very upset and hold it against me ... everything I do is held against me pretty much forever.... it’s an expensive streaming subscription that they won’t want to pay for themselves.... but at the same time I feel like I am a doormat. I’ve often made decisions based on their feelings instead of my own. I want to change this going forward.

I’d give them one of two options: pay half if they want to continue streaming or they get removed entirely.

Take them off by changing the passwords which will force them to contact you. Then tell them why you are not allowing them to use your services.

Guilt tripping is a manipulation technique for many people. I used to fall for it but recognize it better now. I think both of the suggestions above are good. I consider streaming a want/luxury, not a need so you do not have to feel guilty about taking them off.

Just change your passwords. They'll get the message. You can tell them you dropped the service. They'll never know.

Like others... I agree. Things in life aren't free. If they're not willing to help cover the cost then they don't need to be using your account. Change your passwords. They might not be too happy, but they need to deal with it and fork out some dough to support their entertainment habit.

I took them off my account and nobody said a word. I have no idea why I made such a big deal about it in my own head. I’m tired of people pleasing. |

Good job! I am proud of you! You probably just care alot about your family members and don't want to be hurt by them. It's hard being a people pleaser. Sometimes you feel like if you take care of yourself instead of others, it's not immediately satisfying so what's the point? It takes time and practice to put your own needs first. It doesn't feel natural. Only after making it a habit does it start to really feel good inside.
Again, you are very brave for moving forward like this! Keep it up!! |
