What do you guys think of white lies?
I make a point to try and not lie at all, but there are about three tons of things I do not talk about, even to those closest to me. There are things in my past I would rather not dwell on myself and not have them dwell on either. |

Yeah, but how about 80-90% honest and like 40-50% leaving things out?

![]() Seriosly though, obviously it depends. I'd say it's okay to have secrets, for as long as you're not masking your true identity and you're not hurting the other party. |

![]() Those are fine lines though. I'm not going by a different name, but much of what makes me who I am is unknown. And I'm not sure if me suddenly revealing to a good friend that I have been having tiny hallucinations on-and-off since my teens doesn't hurt them. |

There is no reason for you to do that. It will change nothing. He will not help you and not knowing is not going to hurt him.

There is no obligations to disclose your private information to everyone. Especially medical information. It’s not even a lie. Just a common sense.
The only people who need to know you have hallucinations are your doctors. I think if you are getting married your spouse needs to know your basic health issues. Other than that I don’t see why friend needs to know. Oh of course if you have something contagious, you need to inform people around you so they know to stay away or keep distance of other precautions. Not telling everyone your private business isn’t a lie |

Now the most likely times I will tell a white lie is if I want to prevent hurting someone's feeling, especially if they are prone to losing their minds and starting up a bunch of drama. Telling a white lie to save face and prevent drama is more acceptable in my opinion. I'll admit, I've done that, especially when it involved someone who couldn't handle the truth and would go crazy and try to ruin other people's reputation if she didn't get her way or felt slighted even just a little. Basically, they were white lies out of fear. But if someone can handle the truth, then I am more willing to be honest in a tactful manner, which can be done. |

White lies, to me, are meant to be harmless - i.e. not telling/bending the truth a bit won’t harm the other person or your relationship. It’s not something that person needs to know, or would cause them to make a significantly different choice about something in their life if they did know.
Nobody needs to know 100% of another person’s business, in any case. There are some things it’s wrong to hide, of course, but if everyone was totally honest all the time, as MrPaul said, society would very likely collapse. |

i also try to be honest with others as well as myself but unfortunately i don't always do that and sometimes i lie out of fear or other similar things. i'd avoid lying on principle but i suppose white lies are nothing major after all. As long as it doesn't go overboard i think it is excusable in my opinion. Sending many Safe, warm hugs to ALL of you, @AliceKate, your Families, your Friends and ALL of your Loved Ones! Keep fighting and keep rocking NO MATTER WHAT HAPPENS, OK?!
