A few people have asked about my anger release technique of breaking stuff. Its been very effective for me. I opted for a new thread in communication, because the art of breaking stuff is about expressing anger in a controlled and safe way. I learned how to do this in my Ts office ages ago.

I had a LOT of anger and other negative feelings when I was going through divorce. One session my T presented me with a bunch of empty cardboard boxes.... tissue boxes, cereal boxes, cake mix boxes, etc.... and a Sharpie marker. I wrote on the boxes things that made me angry such as
Possible trigger:
(True story!) Then I crushed the box. One by one every box got crushed. I felt a little lighter after that session. I started doing it at home with boxes too. One day I forgot to put the trash and recycling out for pickup, so I loaded it in the car and drove it to my town's recyling center. My recycling center relies on volunteers and community service to help unload stuff and one town employee to supervise. But that day it was just one younger kid so I unloaded my own. I tossed a glass jar into a bin and the resulting shatter was satisfying. I didn't have a Sharpie, so the next jar I just said my anger sentence and tossed the jar.
Possible trigger:
I didn't shout it, just kind of said it to myself. I liked saying it instead of writing it down because it was faster. As I was leaving, I saw a sign that said volunteers needed. So I volunteered for 4 hours every other Saturday. I even received an award from my town for my "selfless dedication to a cleaner community". To me it was just free therapy, but the recognition felt good.

There is a place about an hour away from me that charges $20 for 10 minutes in a room to throw stuff that you bring or $60 if they supply you with breakable stuff. I saved a ton of money lol!

What else does anyone do to relieve stress or release anger? Is there something you're angry about? Post it here, just don't forget the trigger warning if its needed.

Thanks for the thread. I realise my issue is worse than this though, I always knew how to act out anger just fine, self-taught or something, but my anger got worse after the trauma stuff. Plus it's still hard to access that anger, it either has to be provoked or I have to get lucky after enough trying. I'm still trying to find ways that would help with the stress of my days with all this and I did like your thread, it was nice to see that there are actually therapists who are okay with anger stuff.

Good that your therapist has been able to Help! i agree with the wise and wonderful Alive99 that it is nice that some therapists are Okay with anger stuff. i personally didn't have too many personal problems with anger i think and i usually try to keep it to myself. Have you tried to look into relaxation techniques? Such as yoga and meditation? Perhaps those may prove Useful. Give it a Try maybe. In any case i Hope that things will continue to improve for you and everyone. Sending many Safe, warm hugs to BOTH you, @RollercoasterLover, your Family, your Friends and ALL of your Loved Ones! Keep fighting and keep rocking NO MATTER WHAT HAPPENS, OK?!
Thanks for this!

attentionThis is an old thread. You probably should not post your reply to it, as the original poster is unlikely to see it.
