Did you know that the word "sabotage" comes from the word sabot? Sabot is the name of a wooden shoe worn in some European countries like Holland. In the last century, when a labor dispute arose, workers would often throw their wooden shoes into the machinery, thereby damaging the equipment. Thus, the word "sabotage" now applies to any destruction of factory machines, railroads, bridges and so forth.
But But sabotage can also apply to us. We sabotage ourselves when we view ourselves in harsh and negative ways. When it comes to our own unique gifts, talents or abilities, we sabotage our minds by convincing ourselves that we are unworthy, incapable, inadequate and even incompetent. That's a destructive way of looking at ourselves. Although we all make mistakes, none of us are unworthy. Still, many of us persist in perpetuating self-negating though which is also true in judging others as hopelessly incompetent, unworthy and incapable. In the late 1800s, a boy was working in a London store. he had to rise at 5AM everyday, sweep the store and then work for 14 hours. He bore all this for two years and then told his mother that he would kill himself if he had to continue. Following his talk to his mother, the boy wrote a pathetic letter to a teacher he had in his early years. He explained how he was heartbroken and no longer wanted to live. the teacher wrote him a personal letter praising him for his diligence and assured him that he was highly gifted and would succeed in life. The letter of encouragement changed the boy's entire life. He went to become one of England's most successful writers, the most famous of his work are The Time Machine and The War of the Worlds. His name - H.G. Wells. For those who tend to sabotage themselves, strive to reduce and eliminate negativie thinking. If you have made a mistake or a blunder or acted ineptly, forgive yourself as readily and quickly as you would forgive someone else. If negative thoughts pop out, brush them aside and think of something positive and cheery. As regards relationship with others, are you a person who is adding to the joy in the world by affirming and encouraging people? Or, are you a person who is adding to the sorrow in the world by constantly nagging and criticizing others? If you are the latter kind of person, bear in mind that, by your negative attitude, you are sabotaging not only yourslef but also those around you...
