I'm almost sure that I should seek some sort of professional help, but I'm not sure where the line is between I want the attention and there is something genuinelywrong.
How does a person know? |

My suggestion: go ahead and get help first. Your therapist can give you a diagnosis - you don't need to figure this out in advance.

I had similar thoughts before I decided to see a T, but then I thought, oh well, it's my time and my money, so maybe I should try. It turned out I really need the help. I was used to my life and problems and didn't see that life can be so much better. I agree with Cedars, go ahead. You can quit any time if you feel you don't need it or don't like it or whatever.

I went to therapy for a short period of time, then I got made at her receptionist and I didn't go back. Smart move, I know.
At that time she wanted me to meet with a doctor, so they could get me started on medication. Thing is, I don't insurance, I make decent money, but the majority of goes to bills and daily living costs. I have considered admitting myself tothe local Behavorial Health Center, and see how that goes. |

I was in therapy because I needed help growing up (attention :-) and that's not a bad thing! How else can one learn what one needs to know emotionally if one was not taught it as a child? That one chooses attention seeking is not bad, it just means they haven't learned any other tools that will work. It's the old, "if all you have is a hammer, everything looks like a nail" adage.
