Evil abounds, but DID are not evil entities. I don't know where in the religion of any sect they get that from.
I have a Bachelors Degree in Theology and I have never read that it was a demon. Most DID is a result of traumatic childhood abuse. |

People who suffer with Dissociative Identity Disorder are not possessed by demons.
![]() I certainly understand where the ignorance enters because the phenomena of switching, especially with a complete lack of connection to thoughts, memories, perceptions and experiences, can appear to be "unbelievable" to the untrained observer. Often the DID person has a personality construct who in their "protector" mode can be quite angry and evil in their presentation. God created such a complex brain! It's a miracle that occurs- that fragmenting- that allows for coping with horrific trauma. ![]()

((((((((((((Genn)))))))))) I used to think this about myself. I couldn't talk about it for the longest time. I was in a cult for a while who reinforced that thinking. Thankfully my T was able to help me see and realize differently. Now I know what goes on for me and that it's a coping skill was used to help me get through unspeakable things. The brain is an amazing thing.

There is no possession whatsoever in individuals with DID. But there are many folks who are not aware of the DID phenomena and might equate "switching" to something more than it is. It's very sad that in this day and age so many people still have little understanding of such things. But, people are learning slowly. Example - ME! I knew of DID and what causes it to happen but I never really understood much about it until I became a PC member. I think if we can have some patience and work to educate, more and more folks will learn and be less critical. At least, that is my hope and prayer. And I pray this not only for those with DID, but with all mental/emotional/personality illnesses as well. (I hate using the word illness, because I don't think it necessarily applies) ![]() sabby |

There are some religions which believe anyone with a mental illness is possessed. Vis the news reports of people who have killed children by putting a hose down their throat to flush out the demon...happened a couple of years ago..read it. A strange religious cult but a common one. However demons do not exist, except in the currency of theology and religion. They are simply energy levels. But I do acknowledge each persons right to believe what they will. Then again there are religions such as scientology which do not believe in depression at all...it does not exist...yeh right... |

those who were most abusive to me worshipped evil and performed their abuse of me in a religious context of satanic worship. there was a great sense of evil involved in it and they messed around with my mind, will and emotions ruthlessly. they abuse of my mind was savage and has had some pretty hideous effects on me and my alts.
i have been getting the help i need to recover and heal from the evil forced into my life by depraved and remorseless evil people. i do believe in God and i do believe that someday these sorts of people will answer to God for the things they did and things they forced me to witness and participate in. they are despicable and vile and i do not normally refer to them on here. the reason i do is to share my perspective on how DID can get a religious aspect to it. if a small child is viciously abused in a religious type group there can be some different experiences than if the small child is unfortunate in living in a constantly abusive home. all children who become DID do so when subjected to overwhelming, negative, painful experiences. no matter how they are defined by context their results are horrific damage and longterm struggles. but people can recover, it just takes time, good help and stubborness in refusing to quit before the healing can occur. the thoughts and ideas shared above are my own, based on experiences i suffered as an infant and child. leslie
