Sadly, I don't think I know what friends are anymore. I used to believe that it was based on loyalty, being there for good times and bad.

Then I discovered that too often I was engaged in people pleasing and/or stuffing my own feelings and not being authentic.

So much so that I lost track of who I am underneath the outer facade of politeness and conforming to social norms.

Now I'm wondering if maybe the best thing is to let people flow in and out of one's life like water. Accept love, mercy, compassion where it is, give it where and when I can (and do my best to increase that capacity), but not try to hold on to anything. Doesn't work anyway.

I only wish that was true. I don't feel that in regards to myself. I feel discarded because of my faults.

Also, I don't know if I'm misinterpreting some of the comments in this thread but I feel they are directed at me in a negative way because I stayed away for a couple of days trying to decide if I should come back. If so, I wasn't rejecting any friends but questioning on whether *I* was being rejected and unfortunately still very much am.

Angel your mind is telling you all the negative stuff because of your depression, turn away from the negativity and see the thread for what it is and use what these people are telling you to pull yourself out of your depression
