Not being believed

Maybe if I had bit him, scratched him and called the police right away, maybe the deputy attorney general would have believed me and agreed to press criminal charges.

If I had done that, there wouldn’t have been six or more other victims.

I am so sorry to see that your guilt makes you suffer so much..I don't see how this could be your fault in any way. You did what made most sense to you at the time. You are not responsible for the flawed system that makes it so hard for the victims to find justice and that doesn't stop many perpetrators from hurting people. You didn't create that system and you are not in the position to fix it or to make it work all of a sudden. I don't believe that if you had done something different the perpetrator would've been properly punished and other people would've been protected. Based on what you've told here, none of those who worked on your case had any intention of doing the right thing. So, your actions didn't matter. There is really no reason to beat yourself up. You did what you thought would be best at the time. There was no way for you to predict what would happen and to take every single factor into account, especially when you were under so much stress. We don't have control over many things in our life, most of them actually. Our ability to control events is very, very limited. You are not responsible for anyone who was hurt after you. Only your perpetrator is. The responsibility falls only on him and on the system that failed to do the right thing.

What happened was not your fault.
He alone is responsible for the other victims.

So many hugs. The pain you're experiencing - the pain you've been through - is beyond words. It wasn't your fault. You didn't do anything wrong. There was nothing else you could've done. You've done nothing wrong. It's not your fault.
