This is really hard to explain but I will try as best as I can.

I have bipolar and I become so depressed I just lay in bed and think. Sometimes I cry so much I give myself a headache and then I have to rest some more. At this point I usually pray myself to sleep.

I don't know if it is due to the depression or ADHD that I cannot focus, or remember anything I am reading from the bible. I would love to be able to get comfort from reading when I am that depressed and alone. I end up trying to read through the tears and put it back down again.

Hence, I CAN'T read when I am not depressed, and SHOULD read when I am depressed but still not able to focus and remember what I read.

Does that make sense?

I don't read at all now!! <<sigh>> But, I want to be able too!

Can anyone relate?

I just have to find some short Psalm passages that I have hi-lighted or some short proverbs that I have hi-lighted. I can only get a few in sometimes, but it helps. You are not alone.
Thanks for this!

How about getting the bible on tape? Would being able to listen help?

or even CDs? Then you can listen, and allow your spirit to rest in the
Word that is being spoken...

You are right when you say that whenever depressed God's Word is a needed encouragment and comfort.

Here's a link to the radio stations in your city that might help... listening to uplifting music. http://www.yellowpages.com/louisvill...radio-stations There are also radio stations you can access free online.

I'm not allowed to post verses here, but will put some in your visitor message area if that's ok. It's good to memorize just a few, so we have them in our head to meditate upon during those tough times.

Thank you everyone for your advice, I have tried listening to CD's before and before I know it my mind has wandered off into never never land and I end up having to rewind it and again it never quite gets absorbed.

I just can't seem to keep my mind focused on the words long enough for them to sink in and I am wondering if I just have a bad case of ADHD, or if I am just stupid. I can't remember anything I read.

I do try to read just a simple sentence from proverbs or psalms and 15min later I forget what I have read.

I just had some MRI's done for dimentia and supposedly the tests came out normal.

Like I said I feel really stupid because I have been a christian for a long time now and I cannot even comprehend God's word. I know it is essential that I know it to live a fruitful and fulfilling life.

I suspect that is why my life isn't "joyful" because I don't know the word of God. I can only pray on judgement day that he will understand.

GRRR sorry I forgot to check and be sure it was for TN. That's what I searched.

Here's for TN: http://www.yellowpages.com/tn/christ...Radio+Stations

Here's an email you can ask that they send you a short daily "God's Promises" devotional that I find helpful. :

I know God will (and does) understand when you can't remember. Depression can affect the thinking processes in many ways. Also, some medications can affect memory. Please don't be so hard on yourself. Okay? Maybe you can try reading just a few verses out loud, say from the Psalms. I agree that it's a special book, since David often expresses some depression in there. If you can't remember beyond that right now, then please don't worry. A lot of us have been there at some point in our depressive times......

When you can't read, the power you seek comfort in is all around you. Look at the stars, welcome a new day at sun rise, watch a beautiful sunset. This how we are comforted too!
