i've been having mormons come to my door a lot lately and i dont know how to tell them that what they believe.... i just cannot. i don't believe the bible, first of all it was written by man (NOT starting a debate! just explaining) BUT i do believe in some sort of higher power, something larger than us all. I know for sure there are many many things i will never know or understand. I just wish i knew other people who feel the same way that i do. This might sound hippy-ish or something but i believe everything organic is connected, that our souls are all connected. That I am even connected with this plant I am sitting next to, that what i do around it can affect it's own health. It's proven that if you talk to your plants they will be healthier and are more likely to thrive and produce more flowers, etc... I feel like there is no "god" like the bible describes, like a man.... but more like "god" is the spirit that runs within all of us, all at the same time. That is why i believe we have "miracles" or crazy things where you just KNEW something before you had any evidence.... as if your mind was spiritually connected and able to sense the danger affecting another person - because you are connected. and the more time you spend with this person the more connected you become to this person.

i guess you could say i see the universe as a big brain, if you know how the brain works with connections and even addictions, you'll know what i mean.

anyone else think this way?

Although I do not share in all your beliefs, I do share in the belief that we (souls) are all connected, whether those souls be human, plant, or animal. My faith lies in a more nature based spirituality.

I'm glad that you shared your beliefs and your non-beliefs. Just know that you are not alone, and that regardless of your faith, spirituality, or religion, you are welcome here.

I'm always around if you ever want to talk.

Take care

Sometimes people can be pretty persistent to persuade you to believe what they believe because some of them believe their god commands them to do so. That's fine but only when the person they meet is interested in their ideas.

If you no longer wish to talk with them politely tell them that you are not interested in learning about their beliefs and if you change your mind you will call them. That might work. If they insist that they share with you it will take a more firm approach. Possibly a quite firm approach if they don't get it like, "okay we are done now. Have a nice day. Goodbye." Door shuts.

I enjoy discussing religion and spirituality and learning other peoples' views but only if it is a two way conversation where we both talk and listen and discuss our differing thoughts. Not so fond of those that just talk and talk and want me to listen.

Interesting thoughts you have about the world. It's a shame we can't discuss these things here. I have seen other communities discuss sensitive topics and everybody was respectful; we had discussions that were thought provoking and constructive. But the tone of Psychcentral is different. There are some that misinterpret disagreement as rejection. It's a fine line to walk sometimes.

I share some of Yoda's sentiment. You ARE always welcome here, no matter what anyone else here may say!!

If you'd ever like to discuss your spirituality on a deeper level in an open environment, where communication is on a two way street as opposed to a one way street, feel free to PM me.

We can always get a Chat going for ALL FAITHS. I'm sure there would be a lot of folks interested.

yeah, religion is a difficult subject to discuss with people and honestly i think a chat for all religions wouldnt work lol. i can just see the anger flaring up. This post was kind of random, im not a hugely spiritual person, just kind of.... i don't pray really. but i do sometimes.

and people take strong offense to someone who doesnt agree with their faith.... bothered enough to kill!it's a crazy world we live in. call me crazy and stupid for my thoughts on religion/faith and i wont care. lol. i know there are too many different types of faiths to pick one.... i mean think about how many imaginations are creating new religions every day!

I have found that it is best to stop reading books and listening to people when it comes to spirituality and start spending time in nature and listen to what may come..... every one has a spirit with in them and this spirit will speak if they take the time to listen.

WE are ALL SPIRITUAL BEINGS.

The title of your thread and the substance of your words are a trigger for me, but that's not your fault - and the triggers are sweet. I've been resisting the urge to bust out in laughter and tell you to go clean your room!

I was a daddy's girl. My father was my hero, and I knew he loved me dearly. Mom hated me. I'll share with you a little conversation I had with my dad when I was a little girl.....

Dad: Go clean your room.
Me: I HATE YOU!
Dad: What's that?
Me: I hate SOMEONE!
Dad: Who do you hate?
Me: I hate someone YOU DON'T EVEN KNOW!
Dad: Oh - you shouldn't hate anyone....now go clean your room.

Okay, okay - enough nostalgia from me. Good luck! I'm off to go clean my room, just in case.

Rest in peace ((Dad))
