I have found that the only thing that calms my fears and troubles the most is having a spiritual life, having someone who will listen. Having a firm foundation of truth and reliability you can be honest with and not be judged by.
The more grounded your spirituality is in reality, the better the foundation is, and thus the true character of the God will come out and be obvious to you. For me right now, just having God being there to listen to me, and know he is in control - that way I can be honest with him, and get out what needs to come out. I think it's stronger than anti-depressants, and this calmness probably releases chemicals the brain needs. That's my own take on it, though. All I know is guilt, fear and insecurity are human things everyone deals with and suffers from. We need a REAL way to handle these problems. That involves a real living God and as a result a real spirituality.

i agree that not taking on the stress of unwarranted responsibility for everything in the world is a good thing. feeling responsible for ones own acts without feeling guilty or mortified is also very helpful. it's good to remember these things, where one is religious or spiritual or not ~! thanks for the post~ hart

I am not a particularly religious person although I am a very spiritual one. My parents tried to get me to be Christian when I was younger and all the tradition etc just pushed me away.
However I have always been interested in spirituality and having a connection with some higher power, not any particular religion. I like to adopt values from Buddhism in particular as I find they live a very fulfilling lifestyle with great teachings of not becoming attached to things. I also think it helps to not hold yourself accountable for every single decision you make because sometimes it is just to much and you need to just go with the flow. Cheers |

God not only give you exceeding great and precious promises, but He faithfully fulfills them in more ways than you could ask or think. There are things He is working for your good that you may not understand or see clearly at this moment; there are promises He is fulfilling you may thought He'd forgotten; there are prayers He is answering that you may have thought were requested that has been denied.
Know therefore that the Lord is faithful which keeps promises and loving towards all He has made. ![]() |

I find in William Jame's Varieties of Religious Experience an excellent perspective on those experiences within the study of psychology and neurology, but also to include a distinct spiritual nexus within those experiences. Writing in the early part of the Twentieth Century, his work is no longer protected by copyright and can be read free at the Project Gutenberg website. I recommend it highly.
