I believe in a collective purpose the one I stated as others have, to love and worship God.
So, since so many of us have found our purpose... perhaps it's more about what is YOUR purpose and why do you resist what others say the collective purpose is? (I'm not dissing you...I'm stating the questions you might wish to ask yourself as you travel this seeking journey.)

It isn't entirely clear to whom your post was directed, but, I will take a minute to answer this section:
"...why do you resist what others say the collective purpose is?" The historical record will show that at times during the evolution of humanity, there have been, and continue to be, instances in which the activity of 'collective purposes" have not proven the to be the most beneficial for all of human kind. I can cite examples if requested. Personally, I find little enjoyment in separating myself from the herd. It's quite isolating, can be emotionally painful, and causes a great amount of stress to hold the less popular perspective. I, however, feel it is strongly necessary that someone should do so. Group think is a danger to critical thinking. There is an old but worthwhile statement: “When everyone thinks alike, no one thinks very much.” Group Think -The Herd Mentality Groupthink is a psychological phenomenon that occurs within a group of people, in which the desire for harmony or conformity in the group results in an irrational or dysfunctional decision-making outcome. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Groupthink Many people imagine themselves as unique individuals unlike anyone else; indeed, we all possess specific characteristics that distinguish us from the crowd. However, despite our imaginations and wishful thinking, the majority of human beings comply with some set of societal rules most of the time. Conformity and Group Mentality Remedies for Groupthink Decision experts have determined that groupthink may be prevented by adopting some of the following measures: a) The leader should assign the role of critical evaluator to each member b) The leader should avoid stating preferences and expectations at the outset c) Each member of the group should routinely discuss the groups' deliberations with a trusted associate and report back to the group on the associate's reactions d) One or more experts should be invited to each meeting on a staggered basis. The outside experts should be encouraged to challenge views of the members. e) At least one articulate and knowledgeable member should be given the role of devil's advocate (to question assumptions and plans) f) The leader should make sure that a sizeable block of time is set aside to survey warning signals from rivals; leader and group construct alternative scenarios of rivals' intentions. Further discussion would be better in a Social Group setting rather than in this forum which is mainly for folks to discuss Spirituality. |
