How will knowing your future get you into Heaven? Just as Sky says, the Bible (if that's your religion) says involving yourself in the occult, which is what psychic abilities falls under, is a sin.

I don't know what you mean by the authority factor. Singing and painting may be things that can be shared with others, but what about being a good doctor? That's a profession where you help others.

And if a psychic has to spend his or her time using his or her gift, well, s/he has to make money somehow.

Some people use psychic abilities to become spiritual leaders (pseudopsychologists too) - without any proof on how or where they got their "degree."

If their intentions aren't sincere, their messages won't be either.

let's keep this on track here. it was not meant for debate on the right or wrong but do you or do you not believe. there are reasons however for belief that one should not charge for the services of gifts from God

I have gone to a few different psychics, and some of them
were, definitely on target. It is amazing that they can do this
without any info from you, other than your birthdate & time.

I know a lot of religions don't believe in this and it is
usually a very serious sin. But I can't help it, I've always
believed in the psychics and new age things.

Not everyone believes it's a gift from God, and not everyone believes in God. For the record.

As for people using their gifts for false reasons, there are those who use their gifts (of charm, knowledge, influence, charisma, etc.) to gain power in all kinds of things--politics, churches, work places, etc.

Anyway, I have always been drawn to the occult and supernatural, even though I'm skeptical about it all (used to be less so).

The forum was going well for awhile and now we are taking a thread that has to do with psychics and people are starting to quote the bible. This was not a religious thread but a simple question of whether or not your believe in psychics, can we please leave the bibles closed?

Tranquility, don't take it personal. If you notice, I was responding to Bebop. Personally, I don't find anything spiritually uplifting about psychics. My Own Personal Opinion... to which I'm entitled.

And by the way, I'm not the first one to bring God up in this thread. If God is brought up, then what He has to say on the subject is also relevant.

Kathy, I truly do believe that those are gifts from God. Besides, I wasn't cencoring anyone. I was just giving my own opinion. Wish people wouldn't take things so personally and get so defensive! I posted earlier in this thread, and must confess, I haven't read all the responses here, though I see that it has gotten into a religious debate.
As I stated earlier, I think everyone has some degree of psychic ability, but either don't recognize it or don't choose to develop it. I think many people delude themselves about this, either by seeking readings and advice from a purported psychic or from developing it into some sort of trade for themselves.
I went to one "psyhcic reading" party at the invitation of my good friend who believes in it totally, with a noted local psychic. He talked a lot, and fast, when I entered the room with him. He is good at this, talking till he "hits" on something, and then goes from there. These people are skilled at what is called "cold readings."
I want to add here that I'm amazed at the number of TV shows about psychic detectives, and ghost hunters. I think any one of us could do that...enter a place and say we "sensed" something!
None of us can really know the depths of perception of the human mind. I do think there are things that cannot be explained. Even animals are psychic.

I watched an episode of a show - woman and two men investigate unsolved murders by connecting with the victims spirit.

They did an episode on Natalie Holloway, the teenager who went missing in Aruba. They described the event, named the killers (basically), and pinpointed the location of her body - down a deep ravine.

Why haven't we seen this on national TV? You'd think it would be a big break in the case, huh?

I didn't see the program about which you are speaking.
I think these things are not taken seriously by most police departments, and so that is probably why it hasn't been further developed.
I think the Natalie Holloway story is a great tragedy, frightening.

That's what I thought too - a great tragedy. If they were willing to bring in the military to look for the girl, you'd think someone of authority could take a peek down a ravine to see if she's really there. If she were there, I'm certain it would be international news that some "ghosthunters" found her.

I'm willing to bet her parents would like to bring her home - not serve as entertainment for us and as a career choice for others.

kathy the investigator on that show is a close friend of mine. not sure how much I agree with the woman psychic on there but I have heard the man is really good.

I want to add that I am a ghost hunter too.
