Do no identify with your condition! You are not your job, nor your medication, nor your hallucination...
According to Gurdjieff identification is the only "sin". Who is the real you? There is someone there with you who is the observer, the witness. When you are despondent like Eckhard Tolle was, and say "I cannot live with myself any more", who are the two entities? The one is the false self, the allegedly "ill" one. The one that mistakenly thinks that happiness can come from wellness... Aren't healthy even rich people often unhappy too? The false, fragmented self who thinks about the future, the next day, or the past. Good or bad the past is not real, it is only as real as your memory. Often we remember things wrongly, the way we wanted something to happen or often we block out unpleasant memories. The only firm foundation is in the present and when we are disconnected from the Universe we are unhappy and ill emotionally. These things happen to your false self. The real self is always perfect and grounded. Find out who you really are and you will gain salvation.

The false self has to be silenced. I have found that speaking positive words over myself and situations maintains my integrity. Memory orients us in time I think. Without those markers, we really would be insane. I think people with mh problems do dwell on the past, what happened "to" them, instead of living proactively and making the present positive and pleasant.
