Are any of my fellow PsyCentral-ers Tarot readers? If so, where are you in the process of learning the cards? I'd love to be able to chat with others who are learning the Tarot and to have a study partner or a study group!

Hi, Welll....I'm not too much into reading the tarot anymore. I used to have a beautiful Aquarian Tarot deck, had it for over thirty years, but it was stolen from my home in a robbery. Anyway, I used to read the tarot...there's something to it. Sometimes I still play around with online tarot just for fun.

I have several decks. Additionally, I read from a standard deck of playing cards too.

I have not memorised the meaning of each card rather the repeating patterns and themes (ie. the stages of a journey as the numbers increase in value - am I at the beginning, the middle, and the end of a particular path and what is the fruition once it is complete).

I have never looked at the cards as an indicator of destiny or the foretelling of the future rather I use them instead for the consideration of and reflection of the undercurrents of my life. The cards allow me to 'see the whole picture.'

I do not believe cards are solely the realm of the witchcraft and the occult. If that were the case then most of the world has been acting in a blasphemous manner as a standard deck of playing cards is actually a tarot deck modified down through history. I point too to the proliferation of 'Angel" cards "Fairie" decks, "Goddess" cards, etc. These are all tarot decks with less offending names.

Aw, Laurie. I'm so sorry to hear not only about the theft of the deck, but the burglary itself! If you don't mind me asking, what caused you to pull away from reading the cards?

I would absolutely love to have some discussions with you about Tarot! I feel you could most likely teach me a lot. How long have you read the cards? I started at the beginning of Summer, thinking it would be a lark but I was definitely wrong. It has become a passion and a real challenge, learning to tap into intuition and read based on the symbols, numbers, and colors in the cards.

Fellow Tarot readers?

i have used several different decks over the decades, but for the last 30-40 yrs i have used only the Osho Zen Tarot deck. i use it for a guide to insight and meditation, usually drawing only one card, or when in states of flux, maybe a circle of 7 cards, one in the middle. they are beautifully rendered and the original quotations from a Zen Buddhist adept on the traditional topics are very supportive of growth and creativity.

Zen Tarot | OSHO | Meditation - Mindfulness and the Science of the Inner

you can get one free reading a day by choosing a card, or cards, from the deck.

Thank you. Yeah, having my old tarot deck stolen was a really hard loss. My mom had purchased it for me in 1978, when I was in high school.

The reason I gave up reading tarot (besides having my deck stolen) is just due to my anxiety/OCD...fear that I'll get a reading that foretells that something 'bad' is going to happen, and I'll obsess over it. It sounds silly even to me... ...It seemed that, before my deck was stolen, I was pulling a lot of 9 of Swords and 10 of Swords...started giving me the creeps. So, in short, anxiety. *sigh*

I 'play around' with this site sometimes...I just don't feel it's serious the way my old Aquarian tarot deck was...so, because it's not as serious I don't have anxiety about it: http://www.osho.com/iosho/zen-tarot/paradox

Im not really a tarot reader in a classic sense, of fortune telling. I just love it for symbolism richness.

Alestair Crowley Thoth deck, bought in 1982. I'm just a notice. In fact, I made up my own way to read them. I'd love to learn more. Great thread!

Fellow Tarot readers?

there are also some lovely, and positive, native american decks available..

online you can go to: Free Native American Tarot Reading and Journal - Ask the Cards

for a daily reading. ThunderBow is very good at interpreting things if you want advice.

I used to do tarot and rune readings professionally but felt guilty about charging people and always felt anxious and pressured to be as accurate as possible so now I just do them for fun. I also believe that I can channel the spirit world directly, but that's been difficult for me recently because I wonder whether I'm psychic or just crazy.

That OSHO deck looks fascinating! I had never seen it before. Is it available as a deck or only online?
I had seen the Native American deck and I'd love to have one. At the moment, I have 2 decks: New Wave Tarot (an excellent deck illustrated with collages of New Wave, punk, and Goth artists from the late 70's and the 80's. It's my favorite!) and the Rider-Waite Deck (I'm learning on this one.) I went on Amazon and saw so many decks I want that my wishlist doubled in size. :P

oh yes, you can buy that OSHO deck in many places, online or in person ( suppose, if you live in a city). it comes with a lovely little commentary booklet that is a treasure in itself. what i love about it most is: it's always positive~!

I enjoy the tarot - I bought a set online, which turned out to be too big for my hands, oops. I mostly just read for myself, although I've actually bought a deck for my friend because she was interested and it resonated with her. Neither of them were 'true' decks, but we liked them anyway. Sometimes I'll just read from playing cards if I'm out or something, although in a pinch I've also actually read from one of my yugioh decks. I personally find it's most important that you can find a meaning in a card rather than simply read it from a manual, but maybe that's a me thing.

I'm just getting into it, and I'd definitely be interested in studying the deck with you. Since I've been using them, it truly seems like they work! And I was a complete skeptic until I started using them!

You're more than welcome to send me a pm if you'd like too. I have a few decks that I have in my collection. Think it would be good to talk to others and form a group. There's many books on Amazon that you can find to learn more about Tarot and how to read them. Love the Oracle cards too. My favorite cards of the Faerie deck by Brain Froud.

I just bought this deck and now own it. This deck is recommended for experienced readers only, and is not a New Age style deck. Some of the water color images are graphic, but are well done. The card definitions in the booklet that came with the cards are very breif, thus prior knowledge of the Tarot is useful.

This deck respectfully uses Native Life, and is not stealing or taking anything from the Native People. It is a traditional Tarot Deck, showing traditional native ways in its cards.

I am just getting into learning how to read Tarot. Coming from a very conservative christian family it was not something that was talked about, much less practiced in my home growing up. But now that I am older I am embarking on my own journey in a lot of ways. Hopefully we can talk about it once I learn a few things and can actually contribute more to a conversation other than questions.

my Osho Zen Tarot reading for today (i always just pick one, Insight):

Fellow Tarot readers?

"The image of integration is the unio mystica, the fusion of opposites. This is a time of communication between the previously experienced dualities of life. Rather than night opposing day, dark suppressing light, they work together to create a unified whole, turning endlessly one into the other, each containing in its deepest core the seed of the opposite.

The eagle and the swan are both beings of flight and majesty. The eagle is the embodiment of power and aloneness. The swan is the embodiment of space and purity, gently floating and diving, upon and within the element of the emotions, entirely content and complete within her perfection and beauty.

We are the union of eagle and swan: male and female, fire and water, life and death. The card of integration is the symbol of self-creation, new life, and mystical union; otherwise known as alchemy."

I just bought a deck a few months ago, and am pretty much a newbie. i come from a very conservative christian family who probably would think I'm playing with the devil, but I'm in a place in my life where I need follow my own spiritual path even if they disagree with it.

I would love to be a part of the study group.
