I read that a so called religious group calling themselves GodHatesFags are going to picket Heath Ledgers funeral .... because of the film BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN .... so I wrote them what I thought, told them he was a straight guy with a family and a fine actor and even if he was homosexual they have no right to judge ..... He has a family, a little girl and an ex partner and al his fans ho would be so much in turmoil if they do this .... how can they even think God would want this to happen ..... they say he will be rotting in you know where and all sorts of awful things....how can they live with themselves??????

I told them to live and let live and to leave his family in peace, not that I'll do any good, but I am just so mortified they would do this.....

I think they are baptists from Wisconsin ....

I'm so sorry if this triggers anyone but I am so upset about this....he was a fine young man and a great actor, nooe deserves all that rubbish ..... R I P Heath Ledger .......

Kerry xxxxxxxx

maybe it should be moved to general, SORRY

Jinny, they're a fringe group you shouldn't have anything to do with:

I loved him in "A Knight's Tale." Geesh, maybe this group should focus on this film of his instead of "Brokeback Mountain." Even the gay jokes about the movie got old. It seems like so many are obsessed with the sex lives of others. What's the big deal? Do we have a population shortage to which I'm unaware?

I'm with you Jinnyann about this group. There's no excuse to use God in order to promote a desire to hate our neighbors. I hope they don't go through with this. If they do, I hope they are kept away from everyone - including the media.

They're from Kansas.

They aren't mainstream Christians, and have even picketed Billy Graham Crusades I dont really know if this should go here.....may TRIGGER because he hasn't joined them.

You have all kinds of ppl who think so far away from "middle America" they shouldn't receive any such publicity, even as they are getting here. (yes, it should be moved to general imo) Sometimes ppl of a certain bent group together...doesn't make them right.

The passing of this man is sad. I was also sad about Suzanne Pleshett's passing. People die. Unless the Lord comes while we are alive, everyone will die .. 100% chance. It's important for each of us to make what we can of our life, and not cut it shorter than God would have it.

tc I'm sorry you are so affected by this.

This is the same group that pickets funerals of the men and women killed in Irag under the same pretense....God hates gays, America has gays, so their deaths are punishment because of the gays.

They are a hate filled group, and as far as I am concerned are as far away from what a true christian should be, as you can get. It is very sad that they throw around the term "christian" with regards to what they do.

Take care JinnyAnn

Jinnyann, as you and I know, a soldier's family just won an eleven million dollar settlement against this "church" because they picketed their son's funeral.

Since this thread is about a "religion", it should be fine here.

Congress is passing a bill that should curtail their activities. Of course, no one can deal with what they advertise and can't prohibit them (as far as I know) from having that vicious website.

One state, I think , has banned them from crossing into their state. It might be New Jersey. Am not sure of the facts of these locations.

For anyone to show up at a soldier's funeral and behave as atrociously as they do, shows how far "gone" they all are.

They were on a television show recently and they scared me.

A huge motorcycle group has taken it upon themselves to attend any funeral, in the US, where they think these nuts might appear and ride with the funeral procession and block the family's view of these people. I really applaud that. Most of these riders are veterans themselves.

I say let's celebrate Heath Ledger's life and what he gave to us. He was a wonderful actor and I've enjoyed his movies.

There won't be any public memorial services and I doubt that group will fly to Australia to his hometown.

Take care, Jinnyann

Faye

My heart goes out to his family and friends. Those disgusting hate group members should be completely ashamed of themselves. Jinnyann, I understand and share your upset and you have my support. Peace to everyone who is hurting about this tragedy. Such an event really makes those with true spirituality pause and reflect.

Yes, let's remember Heath Ledger for who he was and the good that he did. There are extremist groups who try to associate themselves with all of the major religions and other groups. Those people have their own agendas and motives and beliefs that don't reflect on regular people who follow the mainstream groups that the fringes hang onto. In this case, they are unfairly distracting from what is really important, which is honoring a person who deserves respect.

Heath Ledger's performance in "Brokeback Mountain" was one of the finest that I've seen. It is hard to believe that a person at around 26,27 could play that role exactly as it is written.

My daughter gave me a copy of the "out of print" book, by Annie Proulx, and Brokeback Mountain was one of the short stories in it.

Celebrating a person's life, after death, makes so much more sense to me than worrying about the thread, being concerned that he played a "gay cowboy" or any of the other negatives that can come up.

I'm sure his spirit departed this earth upon the wings of angels and love.

Jinnyann, I admire you very much for taking the time to share your thoughts and feelings about Mr. Ledger and the unfair treatment that nutcases are trying to impose upon his grieving family and friends.
Just watch, the memorials will be private and they won't be able to get anywhere near the celebrations.

Jinnyann, it is difficult to love everyone isn't it? I see no difference in hatred for one or someone else's hatred for another.

I wish you well in your life, I'm sorry this death has affected you so. TC

jinnyann, we don't have to love everyone. don't worry about your feelings concerning the nutcase religious group.

these people represent what so many of us resent when it comes to organized religion. it is a shame that an organization like this can give so many a bad taste. thank goodness all beliefs aren't built upon the foundation of negativity and slander. i do appreciate those that stay away from such behavior.

i'm certain that if we checked into the Kansas group's tax status, they have official recognition that they are a "church"....

we can love people and not like their behavior.
we can like their behavior and not care for them.
it is each individual's own choice and it is their own business.

obviously, we are great fans of Mr. Ledger and of course it upsets a lot of us when vile and vicious people behave the ways these people from Kansas behave.

hold your memories of him close to your heart and grieve in your own fashion. if being angry at the people who are calling him a fag is part of the process, so be it.

some people subscribe to a very narrow line of reasoning when it comes to "love".

everyone here at PC has their only ideas about love and we're all allowed to have those.

i know that you, such a loving human being, is having a great life. i support you in your growth that you show here daily. love you, pat I dont really know if this should go here.....may TRIGGER I dont really know if this should go here.....may TRIGGER I dont really know if this should go here.....may TRIGGER

as you have noticed, i've come out of the woodwork because i so admired Heath Ledger and i so detest evildoers. i support you in your thread. xoxoxo

I thank you from the bottom of my heart for what you just said...sometimes I find it difficult to put into words how i feel about these things and you just did it beautifully .... thankyou

I'm glad you supported me and I wholeheartedly agree with what you say ..... hate is a strong word ... but sometimes it comes spilling out I'm far from perfect and I get heated about certain things and this was one of them ....

i can understand your strong feelings toward this group of people. i too have seen them on TV and such. i am truly repulsed and disgusted with the whole lot of them. i mean, how dare they do these things and say that it is in "the name of God". the scripture tells me that NOTHING can seperate us from the love of God. For another thing, they should read what the bible says about people that intentionally bare false witness. i bet they would shoot flames from their bums, lol.

i am with you on this hon. it is unthinkable that people would desecrate the sacredness of a families final goodbye with such hate and garbage. I dont care if he was gay, straight, or made out with goats for pete's sake!!!! let those that love him have this time to grieve for their loss and say their goodbyes.

love you sweetie, pm me anytime you need.

I am disgusted with any behavior that is so foul, yes indeed! I don't condone anyone acting in such hateful ways. I left a very large religous organization when they outwardly verbalized hatred for homosexuals. I felt they had lost their way: we love people, and care for their souls, even though we can disagree with their behavior.

Jinnyann, I was disturbed to hear that Mary Kate was one of the first people called; she either owned the place he rented or was connected to him in some way. I'm sorry that so many are negatively affected by his early passing. Mary Kate has been through so much for her young life too. I dont really know if this should go here.....may TRIGGER

Whether the doctors prescribing are at fault or not, this will affect all of us I think. With the recent deaths of public people linked to medications, it will cause many good doctors to rethink their prescribing habits. For some that will be a good thing, but I wonder if for the rest of them, if it will make it more difficult for those who need meds to get them. I dont really know if this should go here.....may TRIGGER

I hope your sorrow eases soon. TC

(Quick Reply, intended as a response to all and not to any one particular member).

My last post to this thread was intended as a request not to pick up and continue the political issues in our spirituality forum. I was hoping that all would respect the guidelines for this forum and let the thread end. This forum is not a place to debate political issues. It was already established that the group mentioned does not represent religion. They are a fringe group with their own agenda. I doubt that any of them are members of our online community. I will be locking this thread now.
