I posted in the Video forum, but I'd like to update you all here too.

I finally heard from my son last night! My heart filled with joy at the sound of his voice, then I asked the dreaded question...."How are you?"

He said "I'm good. It's 50 degrees outside and pouring rain...guess where I am." That's right - he's back on base in Washington State!! Even better, he'll be home in THREE WEEKS - FOR GOOD!!

They pushed him pretty hard to re-enlist, but he managed to negotiate an early release - though not really early, just not as long as they wanted him. He pled his case, referred to his excellent record, and the officer said "Fine - take the next plane back to the States."

He has all his fingers and toes, and he sounded good. He's anxious to get home, get to work, and get on with his life. It will be sooooo good to have him back home again. It has been a very long four years.

I truly appreciate your prayers and support during this difficult time.

I'm so happy for you! Four years is a long time, especially if he wasn't planning on making it career! What a great holiday season you will have!

(((((((((((((((((( Kathy & Son ))))))))))))))))))))

That surely is wonderful news! I know you can't wait to get him in your arms again and kiss his face all over! May that time be here before you know it!

Bless you both

Thanks ((Sky, Sabby & Muffy))

Sky - Yeah, that's what made it particularly rough. He never intended to make it his career. The recruiters caught him at a time when he was desperate for educational opportunities and a paycheck, not to mention healthcare benefits - something we could no longer provide for him. He originally signed up for only two years.

I feel like all this time I've had to sit on the sidelines as my only child walked through fire, even when he wasn't on deployment because of the racial hatred he had to endure from higher ups. We weren't expecting it to be so bad, but he was caught between a rock and a hard place. Hopefully, this experience has only made him stronger.

On a sad note, he and his girlfriend of almost two years had to break up, so no grandchildren in the near future. She's still over there, and still has a few years to spend in the military. I really liked her and they really appeared to love each other, but the odds are so stacked against them. My son will be leaving her his car. I was impressed one of his priorities before he leaves is to make sure the car is tuned up and ready for her when she gets back.
