Contended are the happy folks
who know when they've enough
And do not complicate their lives
with lots of extra stuff,
For if you have more than you need
it takes a lot of care
To keep those things all up to snuff
and causes wear and tear.

I'd like to whisper in the ear
of those whose lives are blest;
'Please spread a little love around
while feathering your nest.'
It's easy to accumulate
a bit of extra cash
and save it for a rainy day
in case the markets crash.

But there are foks who travel on
and bear a heavy load
And they could use a bit of help
while trudging down life's road.
And it would please the Lord a lot
if you'd share of things you've got
I know you'd be rewared
with a heart that hums and sings.

I had to spend some time downtown outside one particularly cold morning. I wore my favorite frigid weather scarf - very warm, and it was made to cover the head/ears.

On the way home, I noticed a woman at the exit ramp asking for change. She wore a flimsy coat and no hat on her head. I didn't have any money with me, but I took off my scarf and gave it to her (my hair and the scarf were clean).

Several weeks later I'm riding in the car with my husband, about a couple of miles from that exit. I see the same woman trudging along with her bag, wearing my scarf. Contented People

I felt bad she had to live out on the streets, but at least I knew her ears were warm - felt good. Contented People

I used to feed a homeless man years ago when I was taking hubby to work. We'd stop at McDonalds to eat breakfast and if he was in there mooching a cup of coffee, I'd buy him breakfast. I could tell that he has once been a proud man because it was difficult for him to accept what I have him.

He'd eat some of what I bought him and he'd wrap up the rest nice and tidy to save for later. I knew he'd at least have two meals that day. Contented People Yes, it does feel really good to know that you've made someone's day just a tiny bit better.
