I know this isn't the place for formal intros, so I'll just say I have bipolar schizoaffective. I've been dealing with it for 20 years. I'm on Abilify and lithium, and have gotten diabetes thru all this, be it genetically tied to schizoaffective, or not, and from the meds.

There's a buzz going around about schizoaffective.. I heard that schizoaffective is like being related to some kind of either mood disorder or personality disorder. I think it's the latter. But my counselor was telling me this. Does anybody know about this?

What do you mean a buzz? Last I was told schizoaffective was on the schizophrenic spectrum, with mood disorder "affecting" the patient. I do know my symptoms are more schizophrenic (it took me a while to get used to how bad that diagnoses made me feel). They haven't changed the diagnostic criteria... Not saying all schizoaffective would be nearer schizophrenic. But I think it's more a subset of schizophrenia than bipolar.

Schizoaffective is a thought disorder and a mood disorder, independent of one another.

Sorry, I didn't know it was so commonly known. My counselor just recently told me.

It's interesting how many of us define it differently... that quite surprised me.

How are you feeling, hartbroken?

Welcome hartbroken, I think what is most important is how we define our illness, not so much the public, or doctors define it, for each their own. Good to have you aboard, hope you find the help and support that I know is around.Take care always.
