So I've read articles about how bad it is to drink caffeine with our burden. Who here drinks any form of caffeine and isn't affected by it. I've been newly diagnosed with schizoaffective and I've always been told not to but still do. I'm just wondering who else does it?
Thanks for this!

I drink caffeine. But I personally think it affects my anxiety symptoms vs my sza symptoms. I dont get more hallucinations or depressed but may get more nervous.

Yeah noticed that one too but then I have a cup of coffee with my night time medications and i'm fine. During the day it calms my panic attacks down as long as I have hot coffee.

I have about 6 cappuccinos a day before I begin to feel shaky. I have tremors from my meds regardless of how much coffee I've had. I guess I'm just used to the stuff.

APA calls it a self-medication to alleviate boredom. What are they trying to say? Hmm...

The articles you've read better have scientific evidence that's backed up by studies with respect to an individual’s exposure (present or absent) as well as the dose among those who drink coffee with your type of burden. Populations in Western countries drink more coffee than other parts of the world, what evidence did the writers of the articles have?

Reading about various epidemiological studies and understanding them don't come easy, we need to be always aware that there are bias and confounding factors, we wouldn't wanna miss it. Please watch out for articles that comes out of wazoo.

As for the question, I'm as non-compliant as you are, I take coffee in moderation. (I don't have schizoaffective if you must know.)

I know coffee is a big no-no when we are manic, have wild mood swings, or alredy feeling jittery but I Take Trazadone and two cups of coffee and some vaping helps get me out of my dream state into reality. I Don't overdo it so i'm not jittery in the mornings, but I just need some pick me up and its a lot safer than thoe enegy drinks and 5 hour energy.

That's my rant for the day. Coffee, just coffee... with lot of foamy milk and Nestle quick chocolate. YUM.

I'm manic I think, and on my 9th cup of coffee in 7 hours. I don't usually drink coffee. So I'm pretty much manic I think... I mean I've had excessive sleepiness and now I feel I'm on top of the world. Not to mention I can't shut up either. My roommate asked me if I was feeling ok this morning and I was like NOPE! Feel fabulous. The last 3 weeks have been filled with deep depression. But yeah. Coffee if good. Thankfully I have not hallucinating yet. Really hate that aspect of schizoaffective.

Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz, d'you guys know him?

'99% ethical sourced' coffee beans, the price seemed alright, but it still sounds too good to be true, I'm not saying the fair trade is all the answer, your healthy choice, your hipster choice shapes the world we live in, and the ones of baristas. He should be treating the workers right, on top of that, he could be building schools and providing electricities to the area of coffee farmers. Look at the company's histories guys, they are marketing machines just like any other big corporations. There are too many horror stories from baristas, this just saddens me...

Follow the money, let 'em pay the taxes. Your cup of caramel 'Monsanto' macchiato ain't as hip as you may have thought. Once you start paying attention to the lobbying effort and political moves this company has been making, the truth will unravel.

Starbucks coffee can be an artificial, GMO filled nightmare if you don't order it right. These stories are all mentally unsettling, the incorrectness of it all...

My pdoc isn't anti my drinking coffee. She knows I love good coffee, and hasn't seen me manic for any significant duration. Valproate and Lamotrigine seem to be doing their job. I have bigger fish to fry with psychosis. As you say, it's a pick me up when I'm feeling flat. I'm not on antidepressants.

Coffee and schizoaffective....

Coffee and schizoaffective....

Having coffee anywhere in the world would be super great life experiences, whether it's in the city or in the wild. I have this one regret in life that is, I didn't go on a trekking trip when I had the chance, I can only picture in my head how awesome it'd be to brew coffee on a camping stove, with the image of the earth I'm standing on greeting the sun, or with precipitation and no morning sun, announcing the rough day ahead.

Gents and Ladies, what we know about coffee, from the grower's point of view to the destination, where we normally see a boost in our lives, is larger than life! I'm still just responding to the OP, y'know, what do they know about coffee? I may love coffee more than anyone can think of, depriving others of gods nectar without proper backing with the consideration from all conceivable human knowledge is no coffee lover thing to do, the writers of the article is a hypocrite, (s)he won't know what's it like to be prohibited of coffee consumption in his/her life.

"How do you take your coffee?"

The big HOW is the question here. Any of you can take yours the BEST with your mind, don't let anyone stop you. Fancy coffee beans and the fancy location is not all there is to it, as long as noone's shaking like a Michael J Fox, or allergic to coffee, I personally think it's just fine, it is a life style choice, the choice I take seriously. Even at a gun point!

The half-life of caffeine (time taken for the body to eliminate one-half of the caffeine) varies widely between people, depending on factors such as age, body weight, pregnancy status, medication intake and liver health. In healthy adults, the half-life is approximately 5 to 6 hours. -written by MD

I think whatever our reasons are for drink about of caffeine, we've learned to cope with it and make it work for us and our dx and rx. And it's a good thing I think

I shake like a leaf and have jerky muscle movements thanks to the Risperidone I've been on for 4 years. (Anticholinergics don't seem to be helping). But I don't find the few cappuccinos I have during the day make it worse. It would take a huge amount of coffee (say 10 cups) to give me the hyped up feeling. If anything I find 3 or so cappuccinos rather soothing.

I drink one cup a few times a week when my fatigue is bad but mostly avoid it as a general rule. I've been getting s'mores frappuchinos lately because they are delicious but I fall asleep right after drinking it so doubt it's doing much. I avoid it due to my anxiety and I think it makes my stomach hurt more sometimes. I've never been told to avoid it and while working I doubt I could have without falling asleep at my desk.
Thanks for this!

I drink caffeine addictively. That's interesting, why is it bad for us?
