I have been sick a really long time and now with some therepy and meds I feel better. I want to have an active life again but I'm scared the meds will stop working or that I will somehow relapse again. How much is too much to start with? I would like to go back to college and get my degree or maybe a small part time job would be good. I even thought of getting a dog as now I am up and moving around. I'm excited but I'm scared. I don't have a lot of confidence in myself right now but I hope I can get some. Any advice ?

You take each day one at a time, reduce your jobs to make them simple as possible, and deal with them one at a time. I think the worst curse word in the english language is; Can't
believe in your self, Things are and will continue to get better. And remember there are people out here that care about you and perhaps take the edge off of it by helping. You can. |

My recommendation is to start out slow. Ease into things. A part-time job is better to start with than a full-time job. One college course is better than four. It might be better to start with only one of those activities and add in the second one a few months down the road. Volunteering can also be good means of getting your feet wet once more.
The important thing is to set manageable goals that you can achieve. If you set your goals too high from the beginning there's the possibility you won't be able to reach them and this blow to your confidence could be a setback. But if you set smaller expectations at first, you'll build confidence as you meet each challenge. It can be exciting to get back out into the larger world and begin interacting there again but do remember to take it as slowly as you need too and to allow time to adjust. Best of luck. ![]() .

One of the best things I did for myself a few years ago was to get brother-and-sister kittens. (Now maybe they could tell you whether that was a good thing for them too!) Having living things around can be an encouraging and educating experience -- if you think you are ready to provide a reasonably stable environment for them.

So far I've decided I want to go back to school part time. Now i have to decide what courses and what school and then fill out the financial aid forms. I really think I can do this as long as I don't pile too much on myself.
Kittens sound fabulous. Unfourtunatly they are not allowed where i live but there is hope for a dog ![]() I am trying to take small steps and hopefully the world will open up for me. I think I want to be a psychologist which is maybe a lofty goal but I think if I take it slow i can do it. thanks so much for all of your replies ![]() Kayti |

I have a case manager and she said it's best to take things step by step and with somethings, to wait for a full year of stabilization before heading into them (like school and work). Because you don't want to go back to work or school, and then right back into the hospital or unstable because you rushed into it. Even my mom tells me to slow down, and take things nice and easy. No need to rush. Take your time and you can get anything you want done. And you'll be glad you did it too, cuz you waited till the right time to do it.
