Does telepathy exist? ('Telepathy is impossible. All people who believe they have telepathic experiences are mentally ill' - Dr Geoffrey Lloyd, one of Britain's most senior psychiatrists - who just happens to be the "big chief" of my local hospital's psychiatric department)

My father was an identical twin - so were his sisters. Two pairs of identical twins in the same family. In fact my grandmother gave birth to 4 sets of identical twins - and she herself was a (non-identical) twin. One day, in the 50s, my aunt, for no apparent reason, suddenly became very distressed, burst into tears and had to be sent home from work. The next day she was "back to normal". A week or so later she got a letter from her identical twin in Vancouver, Canada. At the precise time my aunt had her "sudden breakdown" here in the UK, her twin sister in Vancouver was being told by a doctor that they expected her son to die from menigitis (he didn't).

One afternoon my uncle, my father's twin brother, turned up at our house unexpectedly: "Something's happened to Dave" he said. We did not know where my father, a builder, was working. Several hours later he was brought home in an ambulance. He had had a bad fall. At the exact time of his fall his twin brother had experienced a sudden "sense of fear" whilst at his factory job.

My mother was talking to me. Halfway through a sentence the doorbell rang. Three weeks later, when I was alone in a room, this incomplete sentence passed through my mind - at which point my mother entered the room and continued from where she'd left off.

I suddenly woke up. It was 4 am - someone had died. My mind was full of thoughts about my cousin (who I hadn't seen for months). An image of fear, panic, screaming. Later that day I learned that my cousin's husband had been killed in a car crash on the motorway when the driver fell asleep. The time given was "around 4 in the morning".

One day images of fire woke me up. For several days these images "haunted" me - to the point where I walked 20 miles into the hills and slept in the woods. In the morning my mind had cleared. Some weeks later I heard that someone I had been very friendly with but hadn't seen for 6 months had been badly burned in a house fire - and lingered for several days before dying.

Strong thoughts about my ex-wife began. I sat looking at my telephone: "Phone the hospital" repeatedly ran though my mind- but which hospital? After about 20 minutes I decided to ring a mental hospital she'd been in three years earlier (before I met her). As I leaned forward to get up out of my chair my phone rang. It was her ringing from the hospital. She'd been walking up and down a corridor waiting for use of the phone. She wanted me to help her. (I did - but that's another story)

Sigh. Welcome... Newton's... hey, did newton too, had a cat??? who knew?

I don't think we can take any one person, or even one group of ppl's opinions... and being the word nut I am, maybe what he thinks does happen he calls by another term?

We all know how "intuition" often has guided us, and there's good evidence of ppl having thoughts and feelings about others at exact situation times...

It can be difficult to know where the line is drawn when we deal with other mental issues already. imo.

There's still the guy in Ft Lauderdale that has his offer of a million bucks to anyone who can prove such "psychic" ability....

TC and welcome again.

Wow, amazing story but to me telepathy is something I'm not sure about. Could of been a prediction? It is kind of freaky you woke up the extract time. But isn't that a bit like bumping into someone you were thinking of at that very moment. Hmm... you have left me thinking now... But I have no answer. Could have been condensitent* ?

I completly 100% believe in telepathy! I've read that people who's consciousness is aligned on some level (beta, theta, alpha??? I dunno which)...are able to communicate without making verbal/physical contact. Personally, I've had too many 'telepathic' experiences to doubt it's existence.

Yes, I believe in mental telepathy. It's very poorly developed in most ppl but there for the learning....

Now that my son has almost full-time Pychosis, sometimes low key, sometimes spectacular, telepathy between him and others is becoming more frequent.

Remember, we are in the psychosis forum and perceived telepathic abilities is a common symptom of psychosis. Telepathy

</font><blockquote><div id="quote"><font class="small">Quote:</font>
It is necessary to distinguish the apparent normality of the paragnost from the perceived abnormality of the psychiatrically ill. Normality can be conceived, inter alia, along statistical, sociological and psychological frameworks. A practical conceptualization involves a functional definition with a sociocultural base: the normal person is able to cope adequately at intrapsychic, interpersonal, familial, occupational and leisure levels. Conversely, the psychiatrically ill person does not cope at at least one of these levels, often resulting in behavior perceived as abnormal within his culture.

I struggle to spell long words but I think that telepathy is all in the mind and doesn't really exsist. More likely to be coincidence at the right time but not at the extract moment speaking...

thoughts are energy, and I know we can give others and receive from others... energy... I've done that... so while I've done the mental thing too... it's pretty clear to me that telepathy does exist.

I knew the exact moment my Grandma passed away, as I was speeding to the hospital after I got the phone call she had been give her last rites. Ten minutes later, when I got to ICU, the doctor tried to usher me into a conference room, of which I told him, "I know she's gone, she died at 9:53. I just want to see her NOW!" I was 17 at the time. The doctor was totally stunned I knew the exact time she passed on.

Telepathy exists, it just depends on if you know how to use the abilities within your own mind.

I thaught it was just a hoax when it happened the first time or a coinsidance. I was upset and I thaught to my husband I need you here with me. (I was upstairs) Next thing I knew he was there. I tried it a second time on purpose another day and sure enough it happened agin. By the third time of doing it I knew this is not just a coinsidance thing. Thing is it happens when I'm not trying too. I'll be deep in thaught and who ever is around me in the same room or house will say hu? Evidently it is not as clear when I am not trying or focusing my thaughts to someone. I was told it is not right to use it by a pastor. It is not something I had to learn to do or maybe I did and don't remember learning it. I don't know. I do know it is real. Not sure if I want to use it in fact I try hard not to have it happen but it does anyway.

I strongly believe in telepathy. I've had plenty of personal experiences with it myself. Actually, i've even had telepathic experiences with trees, and objects--such as chairs and doors and sculptures, etc.

I don't ever assume that something is for sure, impossible. Like this doctor who believes that all people who claim they've had telepathic experiences are mentally ill--really now, how much does he know about the human mind and such..because the truth is, nobody really understands much about the human brain...actually, nobody really understands much about anything, in my opinion.

Well, I had a really bad dream last night about the local nuclear plant's sirens going off... and tonight on the news I hear they had a fire! This happens all the time... I'm not psychotic. So it occurs in life, I guess.

So telepathy is when you know something is going to happen before it does or while it is? I thaught being able to transfer thaughts was that.
There are many in my family and my husbands family who have the ability. I thaught it was pretty common to be able to sence, see or know something has or will happen.

hi Irks,
that's what i thought too. And i thought the whole knowing-something-is-going-to-happen-before-it-does, was common. I mean, plenty of people say they have dreams that come true, and i;ve heard lots of stories of people getting strange feelings and such about riding in a car or a plane, so they dont get on the plane and then it crashes.
...im confused
