Hi

I have been on solian since 2005, during my first psychotic epsiode. I was on it for about 2 years. Then I stopped. The psychotic episode then came back in 2008. I was then prescribed solian again. I stopped solian again in 2011 and the third psychotic episode came back in 2011.

I am currently on solian 200mg and everything is fine and the voices have gone, only slight ones but it does not affect my day to day routines.

Is psychosis cureable and do i need to take this medicine forever? My psychiatrist has mentioned that I will probably need to take it for only 2-3 years but I am scared that I might relapse again as apparent in the past.

What is the best option?

I think that it is safe to say that people differ in their psychosis or psychotic episodes. I didn't like taking the medicine but that was 30 years ago and I hear that the newer meds don't have as bad of side effects. I definitely don't want to talk anyone out of not taking their medications if it is working for them.
I had a doctor tell me that I might not have any more psychotic episodes again if I took the medicine for 2 or 3 years straight. I didn't take his advice though. During my last episode I sort of fell into a relationship with this young lady. Within 5 or 6 days of her moving in with me my delusions and paranoia subsided. The doctor that I was working with had a hard time believing that I got that better that fast without taking any drugs. That was the last episode that I had for 20 years. Like I stated before people are different. I had a definite sexual element connected with my psychosis.

I think it's important to know what triggers the Madness. I know that a combination of stresses triggered my 2-3 week episode. I just advise avoiding negative triggers. Also, medication changes our brain chemistry, so it's a good way to soften the effects of the madness.

I think if you do the work; group therapy, take the meds, therapy, support meetings, ask for help, you can get your doc to lower the dosage a little at a time. I took college classes to earn my docs trust. It worked. Be stable and responsable and ask for help. It takes time and it will be hard. Good luck!
