I hate money stuff. So stressful.
Welcome to the world of the random paycheques! It's highly stressful.

My employer delights in this. I think they think it keeps everyone coming in to work in the off chance we'll get our paycheques that day.

lol... Well, it's a bit stressful, but at least I have a little bit in savings to carry me. My coworker has $1.58 in her account. And she has three little kids to care for.

They're saying now we get paid on the 2nd. I hope they're right, because my mortgage payment comes out on the second, and I'd like it to be paid.

That's evil, they shouldn't be allowed to pay you late. I know when I get to the end of my money (read: now) I'm terrified. My landlord is pretty evict-y.

Yeah, not sure what can be done at this point. What I don't understand is why the delay? All this stuff is done electronically now. Theoretically it could be nearly instantaneous. If they have to run the file over night, then why not pay us tomorrow? The computer doesn't care that it's a Saturday.

Anyway I feel really fortunate that this isn't a panic situation for me like it is for others.

Sorry your landlord likes to evict. I don't understand that - unless he has so many tenants he just can't manage to deal with all their special circumstances. Here a lot of big apartment complexes don't accept third party checks for rent. I learned about this when my sister got a charity to pay her rent one month. The charity made the check to the property manager, but they wouldn't accept it, because the lease said no third party checks.

If you get paid by automatic transfer, it might actually go in your account Saturday. Monday might just be the "official" pay date for anyone who opted to get paper checks. The other possibility I can think of is if the company's payroll account is short, and they're waiting for something to clear so they can pay you. I worked for a place that wrote me bad checks several times. They always righted it, but it was certainly a pain in the rear.

There is less than a month now until the Olympics begin . . . I have a nice little ensuite room 20 minutes by train from the Olympic site . . . The association that runs my building could charge more per night for my room for the next three months than I pay for two weeks . . . hence the evicty-ness. They'll go back to normal after the madness ends.

It takes three days for electronic transfers to be deposited in the UK. Not sure why.
But it could be the reason?

I'm reading a book called "Your Money or Your Life". It's really interesting, about personal finances. If only I had the self-control to be a good money-owner!

Ah, I see. There's a method to his madness.

An evil, money-grubbing method!

Two business days here.

I love my new online bank, but ... it knows immediately when I do something. I gave Barack Obama $15 the other day, and it came out of my account within minutes. If they can take it out that quickly, they can put it in that quickly!

I have major neurotic issues around money. My frontal lobes literally shut down when I try to think about my money. I still haven't filed my 2011 taxes - even though I have like $1000 coming to me - because it's too stressful to make myself do it.

Is everybody donating to Obama because the alternative is so damned scary? Seems like everybody Amurrrican I know is donating to him . . . or are political donations a big thing over there?

I'm like that. I am trying to cure myself of it before I become a big wage-earner. Until this point in my life (until this month, in fact) I never had enough money to be dangerously irresponsible with it.

One of the first things the book makes you do is count up ALL the money you have EVER earned/been given/had control of, and then calculate your net worth from it. It's frightening and hard work but also a good place to start.

I calculated the amount of money I've spend on cigarettes in the less than five years I've been smoking on and off, and that alone was disgusting. I could have paid for a third of a master's degree with it. Pity the damn things are so addictive.

Not to change the subject, but...

Btw, the guy on the radio the morning kept saying it was going to be 102 degrees today - but it would feel like 105! I mean, seriously, what's the difference. It's hot!

Roll Call Take Two

I actually think Americans are split nearly 50/50.

No no, I know that's what's on in the polls. I'm just surprised there is so much donating. It's not so big in the UK/Canada to donate to parties.

I find the American hardcore approach to the constitution very perplexing. We studied it in comparative constitutional law and . . . I could not figure it out. The commerce clause especially.

And yes, Republicans are scary. I have a friend who grew up with John McCain as a family friend and went to school with JMcC's kids and votes Conservative here, and even HE thinks Republicans are scary.

ETA: Here's our version of Fox. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/home/index.html It's not as craycray today as it often is.
