One time when I was looking for a job before, I kept having to take this same test. The first two places I answered honestly and they never called me back. So at the third place I answered the opposite of what I'd done on the others. They hired me, but I hated the job. I left half way through the orientation training to take another position that I liked a lot better.
It was just weird to me that these people asked so little. Maybe I blathered too much? And pre-emptively answered some things? I've not had a job like this before, so maybe this is standard procedure and I just don't know it.
Job interviews are weird. I've had ones where the interviewers just sat and stared until I volunteered to talk about myself. Had others where I thought everything went spectacularly and then didn't get a call back. I even had one where the interviewer got a nosebleed but completely refused to stop the interview!

Yesterday my sister had an interview over skype for a professor job. It lasted 30 minutes. I don't know. Maybe it's just a preliminary interview?

Probably not much for only missing one dose. Just don't miss the next one.

Thank you fishsandwich and costello.
Actually, the interview did take about 1/2 an hour. It's just that I think they only asked me about three questions. Mostly I asked them questions. That just seems backwards to me. I think I'm supposed to get called for a second interview if they want it, but I have to do the stupid test first. I'm going to do it after I pick up my wife. That way I can take as long as I want. Unless it's timed. Anyway, it is what it is. We shall see. No worse off than before if I don't get it, I suppose.
Thanks for this!

Yuck!

My take from being on the other side - people are idiots. I mean the people who are hiring are idiots.

You think when you're going to interview for a job that the people who are hiring know something. But they don't really. They have a job and a stack of applications and they have to pick someone. Most of the applicants don't have relevant experience, or if they do you wonder why the h3ll they want the job. Or they've said something odd on the application, and you kind of want to interview them so you can ask what it means but you also kind of don't. So you have to interview three of them, and you try your best to pick three who look good. Then you meet them and see if they seem like they'll fit in.

I remember when we hired that woman who just left a couple of weeks ago. She worked here 10 years. At the interview she had this nervous laugh or giggle. She kept laughing all through the interview. She wasn't like that normally though. It was just she was nervous at interviews. We hired her, and she fit in well and did a good job for us.

One other woman we hired who seemed really nice at the interview turned out to be a bit of a sociopath. A touch of psychopathy.

Job application/interviews are a bit of crap shoot, and the people doing the hiring are feeling just as lost as the ones applying. It's best not to think too hard about it. It all seems kind of random. The last time we had a job open, I suggested we just throw all the applications up in the air. The ones that landed on the floor we pitch; the ones that landed on the desk we interview. Honestly it feels that random from the other side.

I have interviewed and hired people before, so I do get that. Plus, this is a new division for this company, so they actually haven't interviewed for this exact position before, although they've hired for similar ones.
I think it was probably fine, I just hate that I don't know how to access it better.

Is it possible they have someone picked out already? We have rules that require us to advertise positions and interview even though we're hiring from within.

Maybe. Although they did tell me I was the first person they were interviewing. (which I thought was weird, and maybe good and maybe bad)

Are you sure you'd like this job if you're hired? My interview here was oddball that way, and it was a strong hint that it's a dysfunctional place. Luckily I have a high tolerance for weird, but maybe you want to give these folks a pass?

Oh honey, "people are idiots" is my motto!

I hired my first people the other day. I interviewed fifteen people for three positions. Everyone else was just kind of unremarkably bland and the vast majority came across very much the same, a kind of generic archetype of a recent BA IR of the Middle East graduate. I remember thinking a lot that I can't possibly have been so silly and inarticulate at 20 years old!

I think they're more likely to accuse you if you don't tell them the meds are lost. Why should you ask for replacements if you've ditched them?

But you wouldn't be lying, right? You lost your meds and you need them replaced. Why would you be lying about that?

I really dislike it when people are dismissive on what I have to say. I may be off the wall but I'm far from stupid.

I don't mind weird. I can handle weird much better than normal!
The tests had more basic intelligence type stuff than personality stuff. That makes me feel better. I can compare vocabulary words and solve for x all day long. Then they asked about 20 different ways if it would ever be okay to give or sell other people illegal drugs at work. That made me giggle.
Thanks for this!

Hmmm.... Anyone dumb enough not to be able to answer those questions probably deserves to be unemployed.

I'm here (kind of). I have decided that the reason I can't give up obsessing about all the people who have wronged me is that I'm meant to fight them. I filed police complaints against all my rapists and put a down payment on the surgery I need this week. I also added a fair number of clinical negligence charges to my suit against the psychiatrists. I don't feel better, but I feel like it could get better eventually.
