She was very attractive. And large breasted (surgically enhanced). And she had a way of making you feel ... special.

In fact she was a stripper and prostitute. Her husband was her pimp and a very, very violent man. There were good reasons her kids were in state custody.

But she was not statuesque.

IMO claiming to be Canadian falls in the same category. Why would anyone lie about that? Or hold it as a delusional belief? Now if you'd said you were Martian ...
Are cops actually allowed to question you about where you are going??

Thinking you're a Canadian when you're not would be the world's most boring and benign delusion if it were a delusion, quite possibly.

As far as I know. Or at least you'll be on your way quicker if you just answer the question. (Hint: The answer is "I'm going to a law librarians' conference.")

Actually there's more to the story. The driver was not me. It was my mixed-race teenaged son behind the wheel. He was pulled over for going 43 in a 40. But we were in a long line of cars and were simply moving along at the same speed as the rest of the traffic. Obviously the black face in the hick town (population about 500) in the middle of nowhere caught the cop's attention. The very middle-class, middle-aged, well-spoken white woman in the passenger seat was a surprise I think.

I like Canadians. I own a Canadian flag label pin amongst my very scant jewelry collection. Purchased about 2000 when George W. Bush was elected president.

Eugh, I can never believe how racist people are. I'm sorry your son had to go through that, and probably still goes through stuff like that.

I didn't read all the posts but good luck. I'm interested in getting my medical files just to read them. ={

They can do what they want with a gun and a badge unless you have a camera or recorder. I carry a recorder with me just for such occasions...

Ha! great guardian article, what did I tell you? As for your son, yeah, i've heard that called, getting stopped for DWB - Driving While Black. it's b.s. they had programs a few years back to educate cops on it, ie not to do it, cos the statistics were just ridiculous.
Thanks for this!

I'm glad you got them.

Someone I used to talk to online had to read hers at the doctors surgery with some one else there.

They have to give you copies if you request them under the Data Protection Act. Sometimes they can make you pay for photocopying and postage, though.

I'm feeling really sick about those records today. Are those really the reasons I was lied to about being schizophrenic and then tortured for it? If they are, then I have no hope of escaping it in the future. It's just too random.

And there are so many comments about my weight in the records that I'm feeling disgustingly fat today. I have this disgusting ring of fat around my stomach since my exams and these comments are making me terrified and ashamed of it.

Well done for getting a copy of your records. I heard that they could stop you by claiming that it might distress you to read about it, which could mean that no-one could get a copy of their psych records if pdocs were pedantic or wanted to hide something.

I'm sorry that you're finding that they are having a negative effect on you but good luck for your lawsuit.

I'm glad you got your records, although I am sorry if they are distressing. Comments on appearance are often relied on when the person making the comments has not been allowed a lot of time to access the patient. (like in the example of court ordered, one time assessments ) I would expect more from a professional who was seeing someone multiple times.
Also, you're a perfectly normal weight. To heck with them.
I wish you good luck with your law suit. You're brave to be doing that.
Thanks for this!

Under the Data Protection Act, they have to disclose your own files to you . . . they can make it super-difficult, though. They never let me see mine until lawyers (other than me ) got involved.

Some of these were one-off assessments, true . . . some were from doctors that I saw for years. There were remarks about my revealing and "sexual" dressing from a doctor who saw me for over three years.

And the REALLY weird thing is that in real, non-psychiatric life, I am usually teased (gently) for dressing like a sister-wife. So weird.

I had to sue. They had no reasons to section me or treat me. Plus I'm a lawyer now -- it's what we do, right??

I'm 11 stone now, but back in the days when I was drugged it ranged from 16 stone 7 to 25 stone. I was elephantine. I never got over the excessive fear about my weight and obesity from that, even though I am predisposed to be on the thin side of average.

I've had disordered eating since I was 8, when my Nan died and I stopped eating to feel in control of my life. Putting on weight makes me feel like my whole world is spinning out of control. Normally (pre-depression) I weigh 10 1/2 stone, but at the moment it's almost 12 stone Being on psych drugs over the last 5 years has made me yo-yo from 9 1/2 stone (on meds that made me nauseated and vomit copiously) to my blimp-like 12st. The yo-yo-ing up and down has ruined my once-flat stomach. It's very upsetting.

I'm sure, if I asked for my notes, I'd get turned down. Not because I want to sue anyone but because I'm nosy and want to know what everyone keeps saying about me... I would love to see it in black and white, but it probably would upset me...

Oh hun, 12 stone is nowhere near blimpy.

And for the record, if you want to see your medical records the doctor/other professional is not legally allowed to deny you. You can ask to see the records informally, but if they refuse you can make a Subject Access Request.

Also, they can only keep information in your medical records that is factually accurate --- technically, they should not put in any value judgments, but of course they often do. You can request to have value judgments stricken from medical records (this is what I am doing), but it is a huge fight where psychiatry is concerned.

((((fish)))) so sorry that your records are upsetting, personally I'd be furious if pdocs were 'treating' me while sitting on the panel of judges at Miss World instead of in their offices! Incompetent bafoons! Secondly... I admire you for standing up for yourself, and psych patients alike

I feel you. I've read a lot of my medical records and there is some bulls*** in them. One woman wrote down that I was making up my hallucinations because she misheard one sentence from me? And also I apparently have traits of every single personality disorder.

And for women they really do go on and on about your appearance! Every woman I know who's been able to access their mental health care records found something about how attractive they are or aren't and their attire in detail.
