Thanks for this! It's just reminded me that my sister has some detangling spray which might help with the hair brushing and reduce the tears (last time it hurt so much! I'm so stupid for letting it get so bad again!).

Yeah I use that one too. For some reason, tying my hair up makes me feel a little bit more in control, like I look like I know what I'm doing. It's weird! lol

I've never been a big fan. I occasionally take baths, but I lie in the water thinking 'I don't get the big deal with lying in perfumed water!' I wonder what I'm supposed to be doing. I imagine relaxing, but I don't find it very relaxing.

Yeah my dog is a big wuss and would likely lie on his back to have the attacker tickle his tummy than protect me!

I too have this. I have to force myself to shower. If I have nowhere to go (which it is summer for me now, so that's the likelyhood of my days/weeks), I can go a week ir more without showering.

As for brushing my teeth, forget it....I just don't see the point. If I am going somewhere where people might see them I wipe them off with a paper towel so they aren't slimey, but besides that I just don't know.

I tried giving myself a "chore chart" with things like shower and brush teeth on it. it lasted about 2 weeks, then I just gave up.

I'm the opposite. When I get sick I tend to become a paranoid germaphobe so I make sure I bathe everyday even though I regularly bathe everyday.

When I'm not well I go like 2-3 days sometimes. That's my worst. But, my mother-in-law can go weeks. If she has no where to go she doesn't shower often. Three times she has stopped combing her hair until it wa a solid knott on her head and we've had to cut it out. Her hair is growing back now from the last time, which was around Christmas.

My self-care issues are more external like putting away laundry or putting on make-up. I don't look "put together" and that doesn't sit well in an office. I do my best. I try to get showered, my hair brushed, and clean clothes. It's not always easy but I try.

I normally can't go without a shower for 2 days, 3 days tops, before I start to "feel" like I need one. Becoming hyper-aware of body odor, sweat, etc. But when I had my big-super-ultra-mega psychotic episode? You'd be lucky to see me shower once a week. It got reeeeally bad. The most I would do is wash my underarms & my head using the sink... It wasn't from paranoia; I just couldn't bring myself to care. I'd only brush my teeth maybe twice a week. It was literally when I was as close to rock bottom as I've ever gotten. And as someone who usually takes at least a moderate amount of pride in her appearance? It really sucks to feel that bad.

Newtus - but funny enough, I have had insanely scary paranoia about the shower since I was a child!! IDK if it's abuse related like another poster said but I think we talked about it before? I'm usually scared that if I close my eyes to rinse my hair/face that I'll get murdered. Like, someone will somehow just teleport into the bathroom to kill me in that instant... But for some reason, it's finally started to let up for the first time in my life over the past few weeks.
Thanks for this!

I've had so many issues like that in the shower/bathroom it's just... awful ... really... I don't know what the deal is with that for me. When I am in the shower I do it as quickly as possible, I'm seriously scared that a demon or some other thing will murder me. o_o

I wish I knew what it was, too!! But yeah, I always keep the door/curtain open & put the water pressure a little lower so I don't splash everywhere. I really don't feel comfortable showering otherwise. And my back always has to be to the wall -- but even that doesn't help sometimes!

One time, I heard that noise from 'the Grudge' coming from the drain & I think that is one of the few times I have legitimately cried my eyes out. It was, like, nightmare come to life.

Hahahahaha, same here. If my back isn't to the wall I'm going to flip out for sure... when it is, well, I still might freak out anyway but I try.

That would have scared the **** out of me too. O_O

I'm not so much scared of being murdered, more of being raped. I have literally NO IDEA where this fear comes from. It's worse now, but I've always had this fear; that someone will break into the house and rape me. It's silly! No one would ever want to rape me cos I'm absolutely hideous!!

But anyway I had a bath yesterday and washed my hair! YEY! I was scared of someone breaking in and attacking me, but I didn't have to worry about cameras cos I'm at my parent's house this week.

Yes, I have the rape fear thing too. It is probably a number one fear that I have had... I think if I analyze it, it boils down to my absolute fear of losing control. The feeling was really bad years ago when I had no idea what a trigger was and I would read terrible stories about rape---not knowing it was planting this seed of fear within me.

Now I never ever read a news headline if the word rape is there. I also don't listen to stories on the news about it.

i fear rape but not in the shower. not in my home. i fear getting a knife pulled on me or people spying on me in the shower. i get in the shower and i can hear whispering coming from somewhere. many times i have ran out of the shower out of fear. one time slipping and falling. i bruised my body.
