Like for one somewhat crappy example I'll be thinking, "Oh I really need to..."

and then my mind goes blank. No idea where my train of thought was going, what I was going to think, nothing. It just goes away. It's like someone simply comes into my head and takes the thoughts away from me before I can finish thinking them.

My sister noticed it yesterday because we were talking and I kept stopping mid-sentence because I'm having trouble forming complete sentences because my thoughts are randomly disappearing/stopping. She's not the only one that's been noticing, anyone I'm around a lot has commented on it. This is why I like to be alone because.. and it happened again. I don't know where I was going with that sentence.

It's really weird, and frankly it's scaring the **** out of me and I don't know why. I'm really confused and this is hard, I don't know what's going on really except that things seem they're getting worse but idk..

Has this kind of thing happened to anyone else?

yep it happens to me and it is really embarrassing when it happens in public.

it happened today and i couldn't think of the right word. it was less embarrassing today then other times because i was at vocational rehab when it happened, so it was obvious to the people who work there that i have some issues! different then say, in public with strangers.

i'm sorry you are having this problem, AD. i wish i had a solution for you.
Thanks for this!

Disorganized or interrupted though process and irregular speech is a regular problem with psychotic disorders. I struggle with it daily which tends to upset the people around me. I just had trouble yesterday getting through a work meeting. I felt so frustrated. But I have gotten used to it as a part of life. I am really sorry you have to deal with it.

Yes this happens to me a lot and it happens to me more and more actually. It's called thought blocking and it's annoying as hell.

Sometimes later the thought might come back later, sometimes even like a day or two later. Sometimes it doesn't, and I forget I even forgot what I was thinking.

usually when it happens I just sigh and say "I just forgot what I was going to tell you. Let me think about it."

mary123, thank you for responding. I'm sorry this happens to you too, it really sucks doesn't it?

Ryan56, thank you. My issues with disorganized thinking/speech/behavior have been getting progressively worse and yeah I guess this would fall under the thought disorder category. Blah. Thank you for the validation and support.

dark_heart_x, thanks. I looked up thought blocking on google and yep there it is, hah. It is annoying as hell and it's freaking me out because the frequency of it has increased pretty dramatically in the past 6 months or so... just now starting to really notice that it's even happening and not sure what to make of it really.

Right now when it happens it's really embarrassing because I already have a hard time talking in general so when I do talk and then can't complete whatever I was saying it's like...

Some people tell me it's just stress. But I have it even when I'm all relaxed on my big recliner watching t.v. So.... I don't think it's just sterss. I think it's just normal for what my mind is going through. And really, we go through so much in our heads losing a thought here or there kind of makes sense.

I know this is called thought blocking and occurs in psychotic disorders, but surely this happens in 'normal' people too?? I'm sure I've had problems like forgetting what I'm going to say, especially if I'm interrupted or stressed, way before I ever had any psychotic probs. Surely it's the word equivalent of going into a room and forgetting what you went in there for?! (I don't mean to be dismissing or insulting, because I know how frustrating it can be, but I'm just curious).

I'm of the opinion that psychopathology is simply normal human experience amplified to an extreme to the point where one starts experiencing what we call mental illness. Like yes, sometimes people forget what they were going to say, but when it happens very very frequently then I consider it a problem. Does that make sense?

I agree with this completely. I think most things that we experience as mental illness are fully present in the non-mentally ill. The difference is we experience them at 10x or 100x the rate of those without.

And yeah, people forget what they are going to say. But, the feeling that the thought was litterally removed from your brain and it happens on a regular basis, that's a sign something is going on. This happens to me like 10+ times every day.

Yes that makes sense, and I totally agree.

Yeah that's why I thought it was normal, but the feeling that the thought was physically removed is what makes it sound psychotic to me. I feel like I've completely lost my train of thought at times, but I never feel like someone's physically taken it. That sounds both scary and frustrating

Well I'm a "normal" person for the most part, and I have constant trouble with forgetting words and sentences. I often don't even remember what the thought was, which makes it difficult at best to remember a single missing word, even when I know the rest of what I wanted to say.

This happens to me so badly. I can't go through a single conversation without having it happen.
