I know that rockng and other movements could be caused by schiz related illnesses ( im diagnosed schizoaffective) or autism ( suggested for me) but what do you do if the rocking inteferes suddenly with your life? Ive always rocked but now its hard for me to not do sometimes. I dont know if its a side effect to a med.

What med are you on? When I was on abilify it was really messing with me. I was always rocking, tapping, fidgeting, etc. I just couldn't stop. It was to the point other people obviously noticed and asking what the hell was wrong with me. And then I'd have these freaky episodes where I had to stretch my arms and legs out straight and hold on for dear life (happened even during driving, which was scary.) Felt like some sort of heart attack or panic attack, but it was the abilify.

I was only on the very lowest dose and only for 2 weeks. I had to stop it right away.

I don't have an answer for you but I wanted you to know that you are not alone. I have rocked all my life and still do. if a rocking chair wasn't available I rocked back and forth on the couch. at work, I rock side to side in my chair. I have had clients ask me to stop because it was mking them dizzy. if I cant rock, I am moving my leg back and forth. I have always believed it was because I wasn't nurtured as a child so it is my way to self soothe.

Any medication that causes agitation and/or restlessness can worsen behaviors like this.

I rock all the time but its not from pills its because of my autism. I also shake my leg up and down but that can be from pills but I'm not sure where that comes from. Rocking can be from schizophrenia as well? I didn't know that before. I rocked differently when I was a kid than I do now. Now I do the more traditional rocking that when people think of an autistic rocking. When I was first diagnosed with autism I rocked on the floor rather than going back and forth. As I get older my more autistic symptoms are coming back and I am regressing. There was awhile that I wasn't that autistic. When I was a kid it was bad. Then I got a miracle dog. I started talking for the first time. I even was in the newspaper because of it. I was less autistic and not even meeting the criteria anymore in the DSM 3. Oops I gave away my age! The DSM 3 was hard to get diagnosed. I would meet the criteria in the DSM 4. All my current docs think I am autistic but I think they are using the DSM 4, not the DSM 5. The DSM 5 is hard to get diagnosed but since I had it all my life (even though sometimes less serious because of the dog) and getting back before the dog but there is one criteria that I don't think I meet. I can talk back and forth to another person even though its weird things.

No, she sadly died years ago. She drowned in our pool. It was a sad day for all of us. We do have birds though. Tiny the macaw is my favorite and he helps me now (except when he is screaming.... the noise hurts my ears).

I rock if I'm standing in a line at the store and I'm only Bipolar. I think it's a self soothing thing.
Thanks for this!

My rocking and movement have greatly reduced but I cant figure out if is because of an increase in mood stabilizer or if I started drinking lots of caffiene again. My doctor said my rocking and other movements were not medication caused but she would not tell me what she thought it was. Caffiene has opposite affect on me.
