so i have some questions to ask hoping for some advice with psychosis.
1) should i forget and move on as quickly as possible when i don't have voices any more in my head? or is it ok to dwell on it a little bit..? organize it tell yourself it was just all you and some hallucination? i gave some thought with my past psychotic events one night after i stopped hearing voices for awhile...as i was remembering the past, the voice came back! so doggone annoying! when this goes away, i should just move on, right? 2) so those who have figured out that you have delusional thoughts, but still had psychosis (auditory, visual, and or tactile), how did you focus? or did you go in and out? 3) i am having a hard time NOT focusing on the hallucination (auditory) when i hear them because they sound JUSY! like the friends from the past...like high school friends and it is because the voice is just like them that makes it harder for me to ignore... how do i block them? and make sure i focus on my life? |

So one of the theories is that rumination (sort of rethinking things) causes hallucinations...I've found it best to be actively working or playing rather than quietly thinking about stuff. In my case the voices were pretty much talking about what I was doing and trying to assist in making me do it better so I didn't really have to ignore them it was more like a a team effort...as far as blocking here is a link and there is a part on coping strategies in one of the responses...

Here's an organization that can help you manage hearing voices:
Intervoice: The International Hearing Voices Network Some things that help me when I'm hearing voices:
As for delusions, I get a lot of weird thoughts and have to try to catch them before they become delusional. It's like inception, you have to stop the thoughts before they get rooted in your mind and you can't let go of them. This is really hard for me but I know I have to correct myself or reach out to others before the thoughts get out of control... I've also found that relieving stress and having a good sleep cycle help me significantly. To be honest, almost everything I learned that helped me was something I had to figure out on my own, so I don't know if these things will necessarily help you. Note that these things work a lot better if I'm on meds and semi-stabilized. If I'm not on meds and/or I'm stressed or sleep deprived then it's a lot harder.
