I just vacuumed so my cat is in need of extra attention since I just scared the bajeezus out of her. As soon as I started writing in this box she came and laid on my chest. lol At 12pm I have a date. We're going to get pizza and enjoy some beer at a cottage inn restaurant. She studied Latin and Greek in college. So she's a big nerd like me. I studied psychology and philosophy, but I have a deep reverence for the classics, especially the Greeks and anything from the Romantic era. This will be our second date! Not sure what to do after we finish eat pizza, I'd like to cuddle lol but maybe a movie or a museum. We'll see! Wish me luck!

I don't read Latin or Greek. However, I read translations all the time. That's great that you learned it at such a young age, Newtus. You must of had a touch notch Christian school. I went to a Lutheran Christian school. It was okay. We didn't learn any languages there. The big difference was that it was bible themed. We memorized bible passages and learned Christian values.

Newtus, do you find time to read anything of interest? Maybe we could start a book club. Have you read The Center Cannot Hold, by Ellen Saks? That story was similar to my own. My Psychiatrist printed out the amazon book page and said I should read this. I didn't feel so alone after reading it.

Newtus it's great you've studied latin. If you can take courses which allow you to incorporate it into your studies your profs will be very impressed, and if you found it easy to learn it will make your courses easier to do too. If you want any help with it just ask, I've been reading latin for twenty years now including ten years of translating Aquinas!

I would be interested in a book club Odysseus. I used to read so much but am lacking the motivation for it now. Perhaps if I knew we were doing it as a joint enterprise it would help me.

I dont exactly remember the type of christian school it was. it was either baptist or nondenominational christian school. we had to choose either spanish or latin as one of the classes we took. but i came to the school in the middle of the year so i didnt get to choose what language i wanted. my school was also bible themed. our science and math class and all the classes even the latin class was centered around the bible. the books for those classes were even specifically made by christian textbook companies. we had a bible class too. and definitely recited passages and learned christian values there.

i have that book actually but havent read it. im a slow reader (when it comes to books) but i do read. because i cant focus my attention so closely on anything really. i used to be a lot more focused when i was younger.

but i did read a book a few years ago called When The Musics Over: My Journey Into Schizophrenia by ross david burke. its an amazing book. one of my favorite books on schizophrenia. it was taken from the accounts and diaries of a schizophrenic young man who later killed himself and his brother put it together.

When the Music's Over: My Journey into Schizophrenia: Ross David Burke, Richard Gates, Robin Hammond: 9780452275843: Amazon.com: Books

i also like The Autobiography of a Schizophrenic Girl.

Autobiography of a Schizophrenic Girl: The True Story of "Renee": Marguerite Sechehaye, Grace Rubin-Rabson, Frank Conroy: 9780452011335: Amazon.com: Books

I'm texting the girl I went on a date with on Saturday. We're talking about House of Cards on Netflix. I just told her there's a spot reserved on my couch for her when season three starts. NO RESPONSE! OH NOES! lol

EDIT: It wouldn't be awkward if my cat watched us have sex would it?

i really like Jean-Paul Sartre book Existentialism & Human Emotions.

Existentialism is a really good topic when you have something like schizophrenia.

i read other philosophers but i feel really connected to Sartre.

Newtus, I have a bachelors in philosophy if you ever want to chat. My area of expertise is ancient philosophy, modern philosophy, philosophy of mind, philosophy of psychology and a little bit of everything else. I know a bit about Sartre, but when it comes to existentialism I'm pretty well versed in Nietzsche. Start a thread and I'll be happy to join in with quotes and books.

Yesterday I did an escapement test. My Graham escapement worked until the pendulum stopped swinging. It wasn't giving enough push probably because the teeth on my escape wheel were too small or the pendulum was too heavy. I adjusted the driving weight which helped a bit. I may try this escapement again but with a 20 cm diameter escape wheel.

After yesterday's results I decided to try a different escapement. Today I drew a recoil escapement with thicker teeth on the escape wheel. Earlier I made the anchor which is 1.5 cm deep. Now, I'm making my escape wheel with a depth of 1 cm and a diameter of 10 cm. I hope to test my escapement tomorrow. Hopefully I will get better results this time.

bukowski swears alot in his books. he was one of the first popular writers to swear so much and present a dystopian view of society. in other words counter culture.

Ody my philosophy class mostly contains reading out of a book and then taking chapter quizzes after that. which are timed. so i might be posting excerpts out of the book of things i read that i dont understand.

but also i have to write two essays which maybe you could help me with. but those arent until probably spring. unless i get to those faster.
