And I can't imagine shooting a dog that gets in my yard, but I can certainly understand why someone who lives in wide open spaces and an unknown big dog comes in your yard - you have to worry about it. They can eat up chickens etc., scare horses, fight with and injure dogs that belong on the property. They could have rabies. Or they could be aggressive, and I can understand a person not wanting to wait to find out. I'm not condoning the neighbor shooting the dog, but maybe he had a really bad experience in the past with a strange dog coming on his property.

Anyway, wild cats are wild cats. And with perhaps some exceptions, Wild cats are not really domesticated. If they take off, there is little you can do about it.

If the cat wanders back, you could take it to a shelter, but wild cats are difficult to adopt out, and there's a good chance he may be put down. He may live longer if left in the wild.

I mainly just wanted to support you, and let you know that I do get how the circumstances you and the animals around you are in is very different from those of us who live in well developed towns and cities.

And I don't think anyone is angry with you. I just think they love animals and don't understand how it works where you are.
like i said before my cat was born feral and was caught and domesticated. there is even a program here that domesticates cats to be put in regular shelters for adoption. thats how i found my cat.

Newtus u always have money for alcohol. Why not cat food? I go without stuff so I can feed my cats and afford litter. I want a dog soooo bad, but I can't afford one so it's not right to get one.

but yea this cat was feral and i bought it like that and i thought it was ok to let it go since i didnt have it that long anyway but i guess idk maybe i did the wrong thing idk
You still don't know if it was wrong to abandon that cat?

I think sunshine is basically saying that you have to put your animal's needs before your own. Make sure they have food before you spend money on something like alcohol. I don't think she was trying to upset you.

Yeah my friend in Minnesota has two rescue cats....it's totally doable...she got the mom as well as a kitten and they sleep with her every night. My aunt lives out in the country next to people with horses and she is one of the most animal loving people I know....not everyone in the country shoots things or leaves them out to die. For many of us the animals are not only our responsibility but part of our family as well...

I'm not trying to upset u. But it upsets me to see animals mistreated. I am very passionate about it. I have a right to voice my opinion.

My Daisy is like my little girl. She is part of my family. My daughter treats her cats like they're her kids too. Our animals are very important to us. I know you understand this Newtus because you said your black cat is your baby.

I understand that it sometimes works, but the majority of the time it does not. (And mind you, I have a cat I absolutely adore - so I am not coming from a place of indifference about animals). Anyway, all the reading about and discussions I've had with people who are involved with ferals has left me with the understanding that they will capture a pregnant feral, take the kittens, neuter the momma, then put the momma back into the wild because as a rule, adult cats don't domesticate. They take the newborn kittens and put them in foster care, and adopt them out. I got a kitten like that from an adoption place - and although she had never lived in the wild, she acted like she was wild. She was a mess.

So I'm really glad you've had a great experience with adopting a feral cat, but your experience is not the norm.

And when it comes right down to it, as much as I love and respect animals, Newtus is worth much more.

That's the one I watched. It was good. The mom was a little over bearing. I didn't know until after I watched it that little Edie was a model in her younger years. It was interesting...
