Sz is extraordinarily rare in young children, but it does happen sometimes. Sz isn't like personality disorders, that have a minimum age. I started having psychotic symptoms when I was 11, but I wasn't dx'd with any disorder until I was 19, and then not with schizoaffective until a few months ago, more than 10 years after my initial episode.

usually it's around age 7 the dr will confirm the exact diagnosis
before that age, they usually observe and give a serious of possible diagnosis under NOS (not otherwise specify)

increasing med right now: a downhill slope
Seroquel 200mg
Epilim 300mg
Olanzapine 5mg
Amisulpride 50mg (just started trying this)
Clonazepam 1.5mg
Ativan 1mg (PRN)
Zopiclone (Imovane) 10mg

In psychosis and struggling worse with ED
I skip med because I would rather be psychotic than living in the real sucky world
Who can understand?...

I think that psychs don't like diagnosing kids with schizophrenia. Not that it's not possible, but they just don't do it because it's supposedly really rare.

I was diagnosed with schizophrenia at 19. I have had other psychotic diagnoses before that, though. Like, Psychotic Depression and Schizoaffective disorder.

I know for me, I have known about my Schizophrenia since I was 7 years old and it came in different phases at different ages, ie: tried running away from home at 5 years old, strictly visual hallucinations at 7, depression and audio hallucinations begin at 13, Self harm Paranoia, delusions, and suicide idealization begins at 15. left home to be with a significant other at 17. Tried jumping off a bridge when I was 19 subsequently, committing myself to the mental hospital and being diagnosed with schizophrenia at 19 years of age started on medication that made me so happy and calm. Moved back home with family. Been up and down since.
