Just wondering has anyone been on both of these and has an opinion on which is better?

Olanzapine made me gain a lot of weight and did nothing for me. Abilify was definitely better.

I'd say abilify is better - that's what I'm trying to get back on.

Olanzapine is ok as well, but it made me gain weight.

I've only tried Olanzapine but it didn't make me gain any weight. The only issue was feeling very sluggish in the mornings, but not tired exactly... more like heavy legs.

Abilify is one of the meds on my shortlist when my referral goes through.

I just switched from Abilify to Olanzapine. The olanzapine works better for me than the Abilify did but I need to watch my weight on it.

Olanzapine was better for me, made me gain weight but I needed to anyway. I had a bad reaction to Abilify (restlessness, restless legs, sleep problems, anger, anxiety, etc).

If you can avoid the weight gain. Olanzapine is the better med imo. Most APs are judged against the following; prolactin raising-olanzapine is decent, so is abilify, Qt prolongation - olanzapine decent , not sure bout abilify , nausea/restlessness , olanzapine decent , abilify not so good , metabolic syndrome- olanzapine poor , abilify decent , sedation; olanzapine not so good, abilify decent. AP properties , olanzapine good (probably , anecdotally in the top 2 or 3 imo) , abilify average. Anti depressant properties- olanzapine decent , abilify average ,
Td (condition caused by dopamine blockade) olanzapine decent , abilify decent( i think)

Personally id choose olanzapine every time. Unfortunately though if you dont get a handle on the weight gain, the negatives in terms of your health , will outweigh the positives.

Lots of this is my opinion , all the above is really a trade off between different side effects. Most of the talking points on AP side effects are there.

Abilify was the first medicine prescribed to me, but for some reason my insurance wouldn't cover it and there was no way I could afford it. Zyprexa has been a miracle drug for me, it has helped bring the positive symptoms to a point where they can be controlled, it has helped to stabilize my mood, and in conjunction with the Prozac, it has helped the negative symptoms like depression especially. Mind you it's not a cure but it has helped me alot. Side effects: weight gain is the biggest one, I gained 50 pounds in a year on it. Sedation was also one for me, but after taking it for some time that went mostly away. Another benefit is that there are generics for it available, so it is cheaper aswell if you don't have insurance. Hope this helps, I would definitely recommend Zyprexa, although your experience may be different.

Abilify is 10x better in my opinion. It worked wonders for me.
