http://images.viralnova.com/000/041/...owl_poster.jpg Went over well, other than that I just say that it will get better. He has psychosis with his bipolar though so usually I concentrate on that and leave the depression to someone more qualified. Has he tried a light box it is the season for that....

What doesn't help me is when ppl are like go for a walk, get out of the house. When I'm at that level of depression the only thing that helps is either waiting it out or getting on an AD. Even if that's lamictal. |

I'm so sorry for your loss.
Today I've not been motivated to do anything at all. I'm trying to get into the Christmas spirit. But I just can't seem to manage it. I'm too busy worrying about being stalked.

I was just thinking. In hospital any person I've actually met IRL with schizophrenia (bar one person) had been in hospital for over a year and could barely communicate without coming across as seriously mentally ill. I've met probably about 10 or so people with scz and only one of them lead a relatively normal life. It's just odd because everyone who posts on here seems to be perfectly able to communicate and, though they may not all have jobs, lives what seems to be a very functioning life. When I say functioning I mean not living in a psychiatric hospital and supporting themselves outside that World of care.
I seen a post about sub categories and how they don't use them but it seems that they would suit as there are many different ''levels'' of schizophrenia and how it effects people. I am also keeping in mind that a lot of people here are not actually schizophrenic, have possibly been wrongly diagnosed or may be self diagnosed. I'm also going by the information given to me by my psychiatrist that you must have a psychotic disorder to be psychotic, which not a lot of people on here do have. Or going doctor to doctor to get a diagnosis that they want. I'm not aiming this at anyone in particular and I don't mean to sound rude, apologies if it comes off that way. This is just my own observation, I'm not a qualified medical practitioner so take it as you will. |

well when you meet people in the hospital especially with schizophrenia - they are usuallt at their worst. a few people here including myself have pretty bad episodes from time to time. not everyone with schizophrenia is constantly psychotic
but i have personally a hard time believing that people with schizophrenia arent always borderline psychotic to some degree. my doctors have always said that basically if im not fully psychotic im always on some level psychotic. with that said ive always either been diagnosed schizoaffective or paranoid schizophrenic but nothing "worse" than that. i think people with say paranoid schizophrenia can be well. i went to many NAMI meetings (National Alliance of Mental Illness) here in Texas and met many people with paranoid schizophrenia who you can tell are slightly off but still live relatively normal lives. now these are meetings that are OUTSIDE of the hospital where people are on meds and going to therapy and stuff. idk about where u live but ive met quite a few people with at least paranoid schizophrenia who lived a somewhat normal life. i even met one guy with really really bad paranoid schiz that was leading a somewhat normal life. i mean he was homeless but he was getting help. i used to know someone and was really close to them - they had disorganized schiz and shed been in state hospitals a few times but was currently just somewhat normal aside from time to time episodes and not having a job/on disability. she had a habit of moving constantly tho.

the past 2-3 years the hospitals i been in and my doctors ruled out schizoaffective. i know some people here prob dont believe me but it mightve been because i was always more psychotic than mood based things. i mean do you know what i mean? and thats just a theory i have. i dont know really.

That is a really good point there newtus: I see them in hostpital, at their worst. Which I hadn't thought of.
These people I've met where lovely people at heart especially this one guy (he looked like Thor with the big beard and hair) we would chat out in the smoking area and have a laugh, then I'd see him 20 minutes later in seclusion trying to ''pass the demons away from himself by screaming''. He believed he was a messenger from God. He's been in their over 2 years and he's only a young guy. He had paranoid schizophrenia. Then there were the others who you couldn't interrupt their conversations they where having with themselves, the ones that wouldn't eat and would chain smoke all day talking alll day. It's very sad. But I just never saw a correlation between the schizophrenics I've met IRL and the ones I've met here. Maybe an online presence is not enough to show the real person behind the monitor. |

an online prescence is definitely not enough to show the real person or even how the person talks or interacts or anything. ive met dozens of people online that ive talked to in real life and its NOTHING like them. i cant tell you how many times ive met people with mental illness online that seemed like people here and then either talked to them on the phone or met them in person and its like almost a total 360. most but not all and that goes not just for people with mental illness but even NORMAL people.
i hate to say it like this but what ive learned from these situations is that if people are spending their entire lives online then its most likely they may not just have social issues but other ones too. and ill back that theory up by saying ive rarely met a normal person that spends most of their time online because they spend most of their time with people in real life and im being really serious saying that

well also like you said - some people here have said they arent diagnosed with schiz-something. when i post about my therapist im just angry. but its important to remember also that flat emotions are not always a symptom for schiz. and also schizophrenia has other things like schizoaffective and stuff. i mean you know?
