These are some of my photos from back when I used to go hiking at Uni:
Suilven from the summit of Canisp:  Suilven from Loch somethingoranother...  The Cuillins on the Isle of Skye:  Coigach:  Stac Pollaidh scree:  Achmelvich Beach, one of the nicest beaches in the UK: (interstingly someone won a photography award this year with an almost identical photo to mine...  ) Loch Inver, which incidentally has an AMAZING pie shop in the village:

Here are a few lines from the beginning of my book I am working on. It's in a post war setting, but I leave most of that part up to the readers to imagine:
There are two great jars that stand on the floor of Zeus’s hall atop Mount Olympus. One holds our mean miseries, the other our blessings. The Gods live an eternally blessed life. However, human beings receive a mixture of the two. This is a story of a single man who lived as if he were on the isle of the blessed, contemplating things of first importance. Zeus, recognizing this ill-proportion of received blessings, corrected his course, and mixed malice, mean and miseries so that he felt the weight and fate of his hubris and humanity. Everyone wants their play to be beautiful, said Zeus deeply, but the price for admission does not come cheaply. This man must feel the storm and stress to achieve a life worth living without sympathy, a life lived with dignity. Through the struggle and strife man must overcome or succumb. Let’s watch as he weaves his way through troubled seas. The only way out is through unless he flees. The soil is set, the sun shines bright, let’s watch this tree grow despite the plight. When the prophets fail us, when the sage is silent, and providence has not revealed itself, that’s when, in the darkness of confusion and frustration, we turn on the light within. Sitting in his flat, with only a blanket, a chair, and a lamp, rests a man unprepared for manhood. Wondering where things went wrong, what kind of life is right for him, and what his life is amounting to. What lurks in the darkened depression is a feeling all too harkened. |
