Hi Costello

Hows your son. Last I remember he was on 10mg of olanzapine after a period off meds. What dosage is he on now? Has he any plans to reduce dosage? I remember him getting his does down from 35mg a day to around 1mg a day and being on that a long time.
Thanks for this!

Hi, guys. Sorry I'm just seeing this for the first time. I don't come here often anymore.

He's doing great. He quit his peer support job after his hospitalization, and he'd like to get back into it, but apparently they won't rehire you if you quit without giving two weeks' notice. I guess suicide attempts don't nullify that rule. Idiots.

So now he's looking at getting involved in a group that encourages poetry for healing. He enjoys that kind of thing, so he's looking into it.

He told me he visited psychcentral a couple of days ago.

Anyway he's on 10 mg of olanzapine and doing about as well as I've ever seen him.

I'm really sorry that your son attempted suicide, Costello. That must have been an awful time for you both but I'm glad that he's doing much better now. Hope everything is well with you (how did the bar exam go? Or are you still revising for it?), your mother and all of your animals.

All the best,

*Willow*

I passed the bar and was sworn in as an attorney on September 25. I'm seriously considering elder law as my practice area. I'm leaning toward opening a solo practice as opposed to trying to get hired on at a law firm. I feel like I'm too old to get hired. Plus I'd like the flexibility so I can care for my mom.

I've moved in with my mom, and it's been difficult. Her dementia is much worse. She's very forgetful, and her judgment is extremely poor.

My animals are all doing well at the moment. I finally figured out how to keep the animal that was preying on my chickens out. I've been holding steady at 32 chickens for the last couple of months. And they're starting to lay again now that the weather's warmed up.

Congrats on passing the bar!! You must be really proud of yourself!

Dementia is tough. My grandfather passed away in the summer, aged 90yo, and it was a kindness really. I actually found that my experiences helped me empathise with him, and that made it easier to not take things personally and to be supportive when he was confused and distressed. So you might find that your experiences with your son have equipped you to better support your mother. I do feel really good about the fact that I could be there to comfort my grandfather in his last few months. It was really hard work at times, but also a privilege. I hope that you have some support so you're not doing everything on your own

All the best,

*Willow*
