Does anyone here have schizoaffective disorder? I would like to talk with people who have the same disorder and how they cope with it.

Everywhere I go I find I can't relate at all to the people around me...it just makes me feel quite hopeless.

I have a question for you about Schzioaffective Disorder. What is it exactly? I was told once by a specilaist that I am Schizoaffective, but every other specialist called what I had Bipolar Disorder, NOS of course. Makes sense as my Dad is Bipolar I. Tangents aside, what exactly is Schizoaffective Disorder? Is it Schizophrenia with Manic mixed or depressed episodes, or is it more Bipolar Disorder and Schizophrenia mixed?

There are 2 types. The first type is depression mixed with psychotic features like hallucinating, etc.

The second type is bipolar mixed with psychotic features. I think that's correct...so that would make sense.

Me too! I was diagnosed schizoaffective about 5 years ago but have had it about 10 years. My hallucinations are in check with medication but my bipolar symptoms are still rampant. I am more manic than depressed, though I have depression at times. PM me if you're still looking for support, or any of you other people if you are looking for someone to talk to.

The docs think that I have schizoaffective disorder. With me its mainly my delusions rather than hallucinations even though I do that as well. The medicine is helping with that. I take Abilify and I don't really hallucinate anymore but I still have those unusual thoughts. I have thought insertion, thought broadcasting and mind control. To me those are so real. I know everyone on this planet knows my thoughts, and the aliens inserts thoughts in my head. I have a million other thoughts that goes through my head as well.

My docs now think that Schizoaffective Disorder is a strong possibility in my case, given that I had 4 weeks of psychosis with no real moodiness. I have to take Geodon and Depakote to keep me from having Mixed episodes and psychosis. I also have to take Celexa for recurrent depression. All in all, I think Schizoaffective better fits my symptoms, and my docs seem to agree. So, everyone wins here. Schizoaffective Disorder
