I don't know if I'm hallucinating or not. In the shadows I think I see men sometimes or think I see bugs, but it's never real and always scares me. I also have violent invasive images. I sometimes times think I hear whispering, but I'm so confused. Am I making my self think these things or is it common or could it be hallucinations? Thoughts?

Yes, those are signs of hallucinations.

I agree, sounds like hallucinations to me too. I have learned that when I experience hallucinations I have severe fear. Fear that is so crippling it's hard to change my train of thought. The fear then causes anxiety. This is when I have someone I trust (my husband) help me look at the situation in a rational manner. It would be a good idea for you to see a psychiatrist. My doc helped me understand my illness and started me on an antipsychotic which has helped soooooo much! Thinking of you!

That's what I was afraid of. My husband says everyone sees shapes in the shadows and thing move out the corner of their eye, but I definitely feel like it's getting more difficult to function. I see t tomorrow and pdoc in a couple of weeks. I was just explaining everything away and not really wanting to take anti psychotic because of the chance of putting on weight, but if I will feel better I guess I need to. I wish I could get my husband to understand. He thinks they just want to put me on more meds for the money.

My husband has always been a "mind over matter" type person. He has always taken the stance that your mind is always stronger and that you can control it. After the past two years of me being in psychosis he now sees and understands that I can't control it. That I indeed needed help from psyc. Meds. I feel better now and so does my family. Wishing you the best!

Hmm sometimes people do see things out of the corner of their eyes that are not hallucinations per se, usually its just a trick of the light. But the whispering and intrusive thoughts could all tie in to hallucinations. It's probably a good idea to talk to a doctor and keep an open mind about medications
Thanks for this!

Honestly these don't sound like the kind of hallucinations that come with schizophrenia and psychosis. Visuals are more rare than auditory. I.e. Voices are more common than images and there's really no doubt that they are voices....you can hear what they are saying perfectly well. I'm not saying it can't be but I would get a professional workup, it could be neurological more than psychological. Also you have a lot of insight, often with mental illness it's not clear that the hallucinations aren't real. However in the beginning it can be clearer and once on meds you can often tell things aren't real. The reality though is your disturbed by this ....you need to get a professional opinion.

I think the meds can cause violent invasive images. I really don't think you are hallucinating.
