Hey, yeah I'm new here.
I haven't seen any doctors or specialists about this yet because I haven't thought that it was a huge problem but I just wanted to talk/ get some feedback about it. I'm also currently a senior in high school if that detail makes any difference at all.

There have been several nights including the one a few hours ago where I'd go to sleep and usually after a strange dream, I'd wake up (or think I wake up) and then I'd hear voices. The voices don't seem to come from inside my head and seem completely auditory as if coming from somewhere else. I know it's all in my mind because the voices are usually/always incredibly loud and my grandma and parents sleep in rooms pretty nearby.

I don't know what to make of the voices except that whenever I hear them I am usually really scared for no reason at all. Usually it's only one voice that I hear for about 20-30 seconds.

The only 2 occurrences that I can definitely remember are:
- A random woman shrieking for approx. 10 seconds (pretty long time ago)
- A guy who said another man's name and started talking. (a few hours ago) [what he said: "{a guy's name I can't remember}, *can't remember can't remember* Now let me take a look in here "can't remember can't remember."} then I'd jerk awake.

Whenever I hear the voices, my body also seems to become fully paralyzed. I try to move but I can't; I try to say something or yell for help but nothing comes out. For some reason however, I am usually able to see however there are times where I couldn't see anything.

Usually right after the voices subside, I usually jerk up and sit-up scared to go back to sleep because there was one time where I heard voices, ignored it, went back to sleep, and almost immediately hear them again.

I really don't know if I am sleeping or awake at the time of the voices where I could see because nothing seems out of place and I seem to be lying on my bed.

When I'd suddenly jerk completely awake, I'd feel something like the after affects of the paralyzing feeling I'd just of had. Like, I'd regain the feelings of my body slowly; not completely right after awoke.

I don't know what to make of the voices or my experiences. I'd think I'm a normal guy and I'm not on any medications other than Allegra for sensitive skin, but the voices were there before I started taking any medication. If there's any other detail I can give that would help you give a better feedback I'm pretty much willing.

Hello and welcome!!!

What you describe sounds like the hypnagogic state. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hypnagogia

That would explain the voices and the paralysis that you are experiencing, if it is limited to the times when you are falling asleep.

Are you under more stress lately? Are you worried about more things?

Stress can do all sorts of things to our mind and body, so it is possible that the hypnagogia is enhanced or brought on by stress.

I am not a doctor, so please take my words with a grain of salt. If it is impacting your daily life, it is worth talking to a professional about.

Yeah I'm scared by it but usually only because I'm hearing loud voices, I can't move, and I speak or yell.

@SpottedOwl: yeah it sounds like it, I took a brief skim of the intro of it.
